The Terraces of Chico is most definitely an amazing place for seniors to live. They have very caring and compassionate employees as well, and they have a beautiful system there where they go down and check on the senior if they don't go down for their meal. They don't do anything medical, but they look after their welfare in other ways. They actually even sent me flowers after my brother passed away. He was in the Lodge. They had a lot of activities, but they were limited by COVID. He got to socialize a little bit while he was there.

Sycamore Glen - Active Senior Community was a very beautiful facility. I went into the lobby around Christmas time; it was absolutely beautiful, and the people were very nice as well. The main area where the residents would sit and hang out, as well as the dining area were both very beautiful, and the place was spotless. The staff was very pleasant, they had really nice grounds all the way around, they had a courtyard in the center that was beautiful, and they had nice seating arrangements.

The Oakmont was very nicely set up, the dining room was nicely set up, and of course it was spread apart so the seniors could still congregate in the dining room, but well away from each other. I thought it was a beautiful place as well. The carpets were clean, the stairwells were nice, and they had a beautiful, working elevator. The staff member was very nice, very helpful, and they knew I was coming, so they had all the pamphlets ready for me and even greeted me at the door. The outside of the building wasn't kept up very well. It was pretty filthy. It didn't look like it had been cleaned in a while, and there was a lot of bird defecation. They were very limited on their outside seating arrangements. There was only spot and there was a walking path around the back of the building. Most of their ambiance was inside.

My mother has moved into The Oakmont. I'm very happy. We have had no problems with them. The apartment is absolutely fine. My mother is pretty much chairbound so she doesn't really participate in many of the activities, but they have a number of activities. The food is good, too. The staff members are very friendly. There is no problem there whatsoever. They have good common areas, like a video room, a library and a workout room.

The Oakmont was nicer, newer, and seemed to have a lot of nice activities. The people seemed nice, but the price was higher. The place was well-kept, and the rooms were average. Everybody had their own alcove to live in and they seemed to be happy there. The dining area was very nicely set up with individual tables. They had a theater and some of the residents were doing arts and crafts.

The Terraces of Chico was really pretty and in a nice area. They had a pond on the property. The girl we talked to was really busy and kept getting interrupted, so we didn't get a great tour there. They also didn't act like they knew we were coming, and after we left, they called us and said we missed the appointment, which was kind of odd. I didn't like that because we did have an appointment.

The Oakmont is considered independent living, but most people there have private care coming in from various agencies, and it's probably bordering close to assisted living for most of the people living there. It's not like a senior apartment situation. It's about as close to independent living you can get without being assisted living, which is good, because a lot of people can't afford assisted living; it's like the gap in between. They were really accommodating to my mother's demands in there, like bringing her meals up to her or this and that. They have a dozen openings and those were all taken in a day. It's a little threadbare, but it is what it is. It's one of those fancy, high-end places. The room had been vacuumed and the bathroom had been cleaned and everything, but you can see the evidence in the furniture, the impressions on the rug, the carpet hadn't been cleaned per se, and it hadn’t been painted or anything like that. Everything you need is there, and from that standpoint it's a very adequate option in Chico. They had some really nice musical groups when I was there. They brought in miniature farm animals for people, and a volunteer guy comes over and does that bean bag game every week with a group. They have a regular routine of appropriate entertainment going on over there. We ended up with a 1-bedroom which was way more than what my mother needed, but I would have to say that it's a little bit on the high side for how well-kept the place was (especially since it's an older community).

We liked Sycamore Glen, except that once you get to the point where you need more help, like if your memory is slipping and you need more physical help, you have to move someplace else. We loved it and it was very nice, I just don't like the fact that they don't offer more facility other than just independent. The person during the tour was very nice. The dining area was very nice.

We love The Oakmont. The rooms have small balconies, which they keep clean. Their rooms are very nice with neat accommodations. The workers are all amazing. We like them. The food is very good too. I wish it was a little less expensive, but compared to other places, I think it is the best value. For us, it is a little less expensive, but I understand because it is all inclusive. They have a bus that takes you shopping, if you want to go to a museum, or if you want to go church.
