I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was brought to Freedom Village after she had her operation. We weren't allowed to go inside at all. When she was on the ground floor, we could see her from her window, and we had to call her on the phone. When they sent her upstairs to the second floor, we could not see her. The only way we could see her was if they brought her out on the patio. My mother was very unhappy there. The people were neglectful and that they would leave her alone for hours and hours. The facility to me, externally, looked a little bit shabby, and the parking was minimal. I was not able to see the inside because we were not allowed to go in because of Covid-19, but overall, my general impression was not favorable. I was not impressed with the physical layout of what I could see. I removed her from that facility. My mother said that the food was good. The staff's report was very minimal, we had to ask questions and see how she is doing, like if she's eating and so forth and so on. It was minimal interaction. I think that they should work more on their patients or their residents there; check on the residents a little bit more. I could see from the window people talking in the hallway, and I think that people need to be watched over a little bit more carefully and paid attention to more. It just did not seem like she had really good patient care or resident care. And for the money that were paying, I think that they have to take a look at what they're doing with the residents a little bit more carefully. As far as the external physical structure of the building, it just looks kind of old.

Care Cost Comparison

Senior care costs are influenced by location, the type of care needed and the number of service hours required. In Lake Forest, skilled nursing care in a semiprivate room is more than double the cost of assisted living, while in-home care, such as home health aides and homemaker services, are significantly more than assisted living per month. Residential care costs typically include living expenses such as rent, utilities and food, while in-home care does not. Seniors should take these expenses into account when deciding on what type of care is best for their needs.
