I visited this facility

We went to Rocky Hollow Lake. We were impressed, but the one concern that my husband had was that he didn't feel like it was as clean as he would like it to be. I know that they were also doing some construction, but I don't know if it's just because of the construction they were doing or if that's an "all the time" thing. Otherwise, we were very impressed with the facility. They only have single rooms; it's like what I would call an "efficiency apartment." When you walk in, there is a kitchenette where my sister-in-law would have a refrigerator. I can't remember if there was a microwave or not, but there's also a sink, and then a little peninsula that could be used as a dining table. It also had some cabinets. It's one large room, maybe thirteen feet by seventeen feet or something like that. It had a bath to the side with a walk-in shower, a toilet, a sink, and two closets for clothing. We were not as impressed with the showers in the rooms; they're a bit old. We were very impressed with the staff, too. They had a dining area where they ate and did some activities. They have a couple of courtyards where you can go out and sit. They have been doing activities regularly. They have had people coming in to sing and things like that, but right now it's COVID so things are different.

The Delaney was really nice, but it was too expensive, and that was the main drawback. It was all nice, we saw a 2-bedroom and a 2-bath, which was what we would have wanted, and the staff that we met was nice. We ate there, it was good, and we enjoyed it. They have a small library and an activities room. The building was fairly new, probably three years old, but still nice.

Rocky Hollow Lake House was very nice. It looked like a house in the country and I felt really comfortable there. It's very small, but very home-like. The outside appearance was very nice and inside was very homey. They seemed to interact with the residents. They had a cafeteria and they were playing games and having some fun. The person who showed me around was excellent.

My parents have moved into The Delaney at Georgetown Village. It is excellent and a 10 all the way around. My parents are getting situated. The dining area is very welcoming, very nice, and clean. The place is very well maintained.

We placed Mom in Georgetown Living, and I like it. It's very safe with a lot of safety measures in place, like motion sensors and chair alarms for residents who are fall risk or impulsive because of the dementia or Alzheimer's. It's very clean, and they have a really good patient to caregiver ratio of 6 to 1. The staff was very caring, attentive, and knowledgeable.

Sedro Trail was very homey. It's a small place, but the outside was very nice. It's like a regular house. It was extremely homey and I liked it, but I needed to find a nursing home, not assisted living. Going outside would be nice because it's like a park.

They’re also limited to $2,000 in countable assets ($3,000 for married couples). Other Financial Assistance Programs for Assisted Living

Community Care for the Aged and Disabled

Community Care for the Aged and Disabled is a program that’s provided by the state separately from the Medicaid system. It helps senior citizens aged 60 and older access care services when they’re ineligible for Medicaid. While it’s a program that’s meant to help seniors who want to continue living at home, it does help some seniors access care in assisted living facilities.

To qualify for CCAD, applicants need to be at least 60 years old and require daily care. Their income must not exceed $2,250 per month, and they’re limited to owning $5,000 in countable assets.

To apply, seniors living in Georgetown can contact the Aging and Disability Resource Center at (855) 937-2372.

Optional State Supplement

Aged, blind and disabled individuals who receive Supplemental Security Income are typically automatically enrolled in the state’s Optional State Supplement benefit program. The benefit is paid in cash each month and is meant to help its recipients pay for costs that aren’t covered by Medicaid or other assistance programs, such as room and board. The amount each beneficiary receives is based on their income and needs.

Seniors who wish to inquire about the OSS can call the Texas Department of Health and Human Services at 1-855-937-2372.

Long-Term Care Insurance

A long-term care insurance policy can help cover costs associated with assisted living or other types of long-term care. Seniors who have policies usually pay a small deductible each year while the insurance provider pays the remainder of the cost. Terms of each long-term care insurance plan vary depending on the provider. Typically, a policy needs to be purchased before the policyholder is in need of long-term care. Costs are normally calculated based on the person’s age, location and previous health conditions.

Seniors who need unbiased help filing a long-term care insurance claim or would like help understanding their policy can contact Elderlife Financial Services, which provides insurance advocacy service and claims services to senior citizens. The company can be contacted via telephone at (888) 222-4500.
