Located near two of Texas’ largest cities, the City of Grand Prairie is a suburb of both Dallas and Fort Worth.

Named one of Money Magazine’s “Best Places To Live” in 2008 and offering tons of activities and services, assisted living in Grand Prairie is a great choice for seniors looking for a unique retirement experience.

Grand Prairie Attractions

Assisted living in Grand Prairie offers a little something for everyone. Whether interested in the arts, sports or something in between, seniors will find engaging entertainment nearby. Seniors can visit the Winspear Opera House in the Dallas Arts District, enjoy football at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, tour the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth or take a trip into the past at Old City Park’s Dallas Heritage Village.

Grand Prairie Senior Activities

Grand Prairie is the home of several senior centers. The Grand Prairie Senior Citizen Center offers a low-cost annual membership and hosts daily activities such as aerobics classes, day trips around the metroplex, dances with live bands and computer classes.

In 2010, the city opened The Summit, a $23 million facility specifically designed for adults over age 50. It has a fitness area, indoor pool with lap lanes, locker rooms with saunas, a 100-seat movie theater and banquet rooms with full kitchen. With centers like these, assisted living in Grand Prairie is never boring.

Grand Prairie Medical Facilities

Communities of assisted living in Grand Prairie are only a short distance from several hospitals in the Dallas, Arlington and Fort Worth areas. Specializing in at least 100 areas of medicine, Medical City Dallas Hospital received accreditation by the Society of Chest Pain Centers and the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission for Primary Stroke Centers.

Also in Dallas, Parkland Hospital was named one of “America’s Best Hospitals” 16 years in a row by U.S. News and World Report. Parkland provides geriatric care to people 60 and older. Parkland’s geriatric services include Geriatric Primary Care Clinics located throughout Dallas County to allow seniors access to healthcare near their homes. Senior house calls are also available to seniors over 70 that are also homebound.

Grand Prairie Transportation

Grand Prairie offers a transit program for eligible seniors called Grand Connection. Once accepted into the program, seniors can request transportation to and from doctor’s appointments or grocery stores that are within the city limits. Seniors traveling into neighboring Dallas or Fort Worth enjoy those cities’ state-of-the-art public transportation services as well.
