Brookdale Cedar Hill is clean but, a little dated. The rooms are cozy and have an open feel. The attached bathrooms have walkin showers and hand rails to support the residents. The staff is nice and caring. Their not too busy to stop and be polite. And were very patience with the residents. There are several activities available. And the hobbies seem to fit the personalities of the residents well. The food taste okay. The residents seem to be pleased with the taste.
Brookdale Cedar Hill is under new ownership of a stable, well ran corporation. The staff are friendly and seem helpful every time I have been in the building. The staff has had some turnover due to new ownership finding the right fit for the building. The building is kept up well on the exterior and the interior. A licensed nurse works closely with the resident's family and their physician to change medication as needed or helps to get the resident to their regular healthcare appointments. The facility is average cost in the area compared to similar properties.
When touring this community the staff were friendly and excited about conducting the tour. The residents were very sociable and exited about activities that take place throughout the day. The residents and families were also excited about the entertainment at the community. The activities were appropriate and stimulating. The staff were very supportive to the residents and their needs. The dinning room was clean and cozy. The menu had a variety of options and the residents were pleased. Overall rooms are stardard and appear to meet the safety needs of the residents.
At first and second visit the facility was great. After my grandmother moved in the true nature of the facility was revealed. The staffing model is flawed. Each worker does everything...they cook, clean, distribute meds and lead activities it seems. The place stayed understaffed and it was very annoying to wait 20 minutes to get in the building. Even more annoying is trying to find someone to let you out. They really need to revisit their staffing model and add people. The employees are overworked and underpaid. Meaningful activities in the facility for the residents don't exist. I've communicated with Brookdale leadership as my loved one resided at two separate facilities and the same problems exist at both with means they exist at all. It's unfortunate that for profit care cuts so many corners. The food was cheap and bad. For the cost Brookdale facilities are not worth the money. I wouldn't recommend any of them if they work under the same staffing model. While they are everywhere it may be best to explore other options...Brookdale is not providing quality care, food or service.
At first Sterling House of Cedar Hill seemed like an answered prayer. The Executive Director was wonderful and it was fully staffed. Then things went downhill rapidly when the Exec. Dir. left. The cleaning lady (who had such a rapport and was so kind with residents) was let go to cut costs. The food went downhill to cut costs. Cleanliness went downhill - I had to clean the toilet, put large garbage bags of trash in the hall, and clean the apt. myself. The LVN I had a problem with from day one - important note when finding a facility is carefully check out the "nursing" staff. Almost didn't use this facility because of her. Always a problem with meds. Dramatic calls over minor incidents - even to primary care physician! Dr. was happy we moved parent from this facility. Also, residents are never taken anywhere; don't think they even have a van anymore. Activity Directors come and go. New Exec. Dir. is terrible. Be wary of this facility.
