I visited this facility

I visited pacific Gardens, but the lady that was supposed to show us around never came down, and we ended up having a substitute that was not very knowledgeable about the facility. The rooms were accessible, but nothing stood out to me, and they were very plain. The whole building needs an updated look to it; it just wasn't appealing. They were doing a "Dear Abby" discussion with some the residents when we were there, and that seemed good. I know they have arts and crafts. They had three set meals a day, we saw a beauty salon, a gym, an outdoor area, and they do barbeques. They have transportation.

I was disappointed with the tour at Villa Serena, because the lady that we were supposed to meet wasn't there, and the manager we spoke to didn't seem too knowledgeable. It didn't look like they were expecting us, and the tour wasn't complete. We saw one room, and it was nice. They have a nice pond with ducks outside. They have several buildings, and in order to get your mail, you have to go outside. That's fine in good weather, but in bad weather, I wouldn't care for it. You have to go from one building to the next to go to the dining room. There was also no follow up after the tour, so it seemed like they weren't interested.

Villa Serena was a big place that was more stretched out compared to other places. They had bigger apartments, excellent staff, and excellent food. They didn't have too many fancy amenities, but they had an exercise room, a gathering room, and a movie room.

Pacific Gardens was rather mediocre. It was nice and the people looked cared for, but it was just not a place I would put my mother in. The rooms were very small, weren't very well-appointed, and looked a little shabby. Aesthetically, it wasn't that wonderful. If you didn't have a lot of money, it's where you'd probably end up.

I really liked Pacific Gardens. It was easy for me to get to, and it was only a 10-minute drive on a not too busy street. I liked the fact that it was 2 stories. It was very nice, and it had everything I was looking for, for my wife. The staff was very friendly and introduced me to the people working there. They had a salon, the room we saw was very nice, and they had an area for microwave and a table. It's 2 people to a room, but there are two doors, so it can be very private.

We liked Villa Serena because it’s more apartment-like and less hotel-like. The staff is caring and stepped-up to help my dad. They make sure he gets to his doctors’ appointments; they couldn’t be better. My dad said he loves the food.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

When we walked in the door of Pacific Gardens to take Joan there, the whole staff come forward, and I have never seen so much love and hugs and kisses and welcoming. It is just beautiful; it brought me to tears. Those wonderful Filipino people, they know how to take care of the old folks. They really are just masters of doing a good job. It is well done. They're doing a great job there. We had one meal with my sister-in-law, and the food was nutritious, but for me, it was bland. However, everybody got their meals and their medications. There are 3 meals a day and desserts. The dining area is quite nice. Again, it is the people that make it that way. They have word association games, they have puzzles, and they have music that comes in. They have all kinds of good stuff going on. One of the guys sat down and did my sister-in-law's fingernails for her. It was just beautiful.

Villa Serena was really nice. They had so much wonderful shade and room outside. The rooms were really nice and clean, and the dining room was pretty. The apartments lead right onto the patio. The staff was really nice and really friendly. It was a really nice and homey place to be.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I like Villa Serena, but the food is terrible. The activities and amenities are fine. The rooms are the largest I have ever been in a senior complex. People just don't like the food. We eat a lot of frozen dinners here, but the breakfast is good. The residents are mostly Filipinos. In fact, we call it Filipino Land. There are two managers who are Filipinos.
