The city of Bellevue, once a sleepy suburb of Seattle, has begun to establish its own identity over the past decade. It is now home to world-class shopping, amenities, in-demand real estate and the offices of several major corporations including Microsoft and Expedia.

If the notoriously rainy Northwest weather kicks in, seniors enjoying assisted living in Bellevue can take shelter in one of Bellevue’s shopping and entertainment centers such as Bellevue Square, Lincoln Square or Bellevue Place.
Collectively known as The Bellevue Collection, this mega-retail complex in Downtown Bellevue includes an enclosed mall full of high-end retailers, a 16-screen movie multiplex and several fine-dining establishments.
Bellevue is home to a burgeoning arts community, which spurred the city to build a first-class performance hall, Meydenbauer Center. The Theater at Meydenbauer Center is rapidly becoming a beacon of community-based performing arts, putting on several productions from local, regional and national groups each year. Overlake is one of only two hospitals in Washington State that participate in the national Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders (NICHE) program that specially trains staff on how to care for the elderly population.
As part of its Senior Care program, Overlake also runs several Senior Health Centers in the area. The centers are open to anyone 65 and older, and provide low-cost health screenings and education workshops and classes. The Senior Health Centers also put on a variety of events throughout the year.
Most communities that provide assisted living in Bellevue are serviced by King County Metro bus service. Elderly residents can purchase discounted senior bus passes from the county. In more remote areas, assisted living residents can utilize the Dial-a-Ride Transit (DART)service which will travel to areas located some distance from a standard bus stop.
Seniors can also make their way to daily appointments with the help of the King County Senior Services Transportation Program. Driven by a fleet of over 350 volunteers, the program can provide transportation to and from a Bellevue assisted living community to anywhere in King County at no cost to seniors.
