I am a past client of this provider

It is not often that I write reviews. However I remember how hard it was to find a place for our Mom when she needed more help than my sisters and I could provide. We first had her at one of the large locally owned care facilities and it was Ok but with several patients per staff we wanted something a little more personal. Dan and Sonia were exactly what we had hoped for. They and their staff treated Mom as if she was one of their own family members. The facility, food, and staff could not have been better. If you want a place that cares for your family member the way you would this is the place

My mother is happy living at The Garden Club. It is nicely located, and it's close to the Factoria mall. They have incredibly nice people that run the place, from the assistant managers, to the girl at the front desk, and the maintenance man. The guests made my mom feel right at home and they get her and make sure she eats. The food is neither terrific nor terrible. Their calendar of activities is loaded every single day. They feature one unit a month and give it a little discounted price per month. She has a kitchen, but she gets three meals a day and snacks. It's a great value for the money. She's adapting all right.

I visited this facility

I liked it very much. It was really nice, but the place they had available was a double room, which were separate rooms, but they shared a bathroom. I don't know if my mother would've liked that. They didn't seem to have the availability of a private room. There were people doing activities all over the place and walking around. They had a movie room and an exercise room. They gave us some cookies, which were pretty good. They had an in-house restaurant and a bakery. They made their own food there, and you could go in any time of the day and get whatever you wanted. The staff was really nice.

The only thing The Garden Club had available was the two-bedroom, and it was away from everybody else. It was very dark, and we didn't care for that unit. The staff was very nice and very thorough. The facility was clean and the lobby was very nice. They had a lot of activities. I didn't like the location. It's near the freeway, but back in the woods and it's too dark for me in there. They had an activity room and a bus that would take you to different places.

My mother is doing well here. The staff is very caring, they're interested and concerned, and very supportive. They also have bingo and puzzles, exercising, scenic tours, and other activities.

Sunrise of Bellevue is a lovely community with nice and wonderful people. My recollection was that I actually thought it was the place for my mother. However, the pricing of the rooms was higher than the community, but the prices for the care was comparable. If not for the fact that the prices for her room would be higher, I would have chosen this place because it's a beautiful community.

I visited this facility

The had multiple buildings and the place seemed older. The one thing I didn't care for was that my dad would have to go to a different building outside to be able to have his meal, so that didn't appeal to me. The person who gave us the tour was really good, and I appreciated all of her time. The dining area was not as big as other places. For a large community it doesn't seem like it could accommodate all the people, but it looked OK.

The Garden Club's rooms and service were very nice. They seemed to have a lot of activities. They have a theater, an exercise room, and a library. They have a lot of nice things. The dining area was not as nice and elegant, but it was fine. The staff seemed very nice. The place was well-maintained.

The wide range of costs for senior care is based largely on the type of care provided, the location and what is included. In Bellevue, nursing home care is nearly double the cost of assisted living, while homemaker and home health aide services cost about $1,000 more a month than assisted living. It’s important to note that these figures for in-home services don’t include additional expenses associated with maintaining a home, such as utilities, taxes, insurance and upkeep. Other Financial Assistance Programs for Assisted Living

Assisted Living Bridge Loans and Reverse Mortgages

Bridge loans provide up to 12 months of payments for seniors who require short-term assistance paying for assisted living. These loans, offered through Elderlife Financial Services, provide seniors with access to either a lump-sum payment or a line of credit that can be paid off once benefits are approved or the senior sells their home.

Reverse mortgages are available for partnered seniors aged 62 or older who own their own home and one partner or spouse needs to move into an assisted living facility. These reverse mortgages allow seniors to access the equity in their home to pay for assisted living while retaining ownership of their residence as long as one spouse continues to live in the home.

To learn more about assisted living bridge loans and reverse mortgages, contact Elderlife Financial at (888) 228-4500.

Veterans Aid and Attendance Benefits and Housebound Allowance

Veterans who have been honorably discharged and their surviving spouses may be eligible for benefits to cover assisted living costs through the Aid and Attendance and Housebound Program. This program is restricted to those who qualify for a VA pension, and it cannot be combined with VA disability benefits. Note that for the purposes of this program, disability does not need to be related to military service.

The Housebound pension supplement is available to qualified applicants who have both a VA disability rating of 100 percent and are largely limited to their primary residence as a direct result of their permanent disability.

The Aid and Attendance pension top-up is available to applicants who:

  • Are bedridden for the majority of the day due to disability or illness
  • Require a caregiver daily to assist with bathing, toileting, eating or managing a prosthetic device
  • Have corrected vision that is 5/200 or less in both eyes or has visual field concentric contraction to 5 degrees or less
  • Are living in a nursing home due to a disability-related loss of mental or physical abilities
