Seattle’s neighbor to the north, the city of Shoreline is a primarily residential community with abundant parks and playgrounds throughout the city. With a population of over 53,000, Shoreline was Washington’s fifteenth largest city in 2007 and the sixth largest city in King County, which includes Seattle, Bellevue and Redmond.
Shoreline is an ideal location where assisted living residents can enjoy the benefits of suburban life in the area’s abundant natural beauty and the convenience of nearby metropolitan activities and opportunities.
Situated between the shores of Puget Sound and Lake Washington, Shoreline senior living residents enjoy both saltwater and freshwater beaches as well as 25 parks within Shoreline’s park system. Recreation and aquatic programs are offered at the Richmond Highlands Recreation Center, Spartan Recreation Center and Shoreline Pool throughout the year. Picnic shelters are available for rental between April and September.
A variety of shopping is available to Shoreline assisted living residents at Aurora Village, Aurora Square, Richmond Village, Gateway Shopping Center, nearby malls such as Northgate Mall in Seattle and Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood, and antique shops and boutiques along Lake City Way. For a movie, the Crest Cinema Center features second-run Hollywood favorites, independent film and foreign language cinema at a steep discount.
The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Senior Center provides assisted living residents with a variety of classes and seminars, daily hot lunches, social work services, health monitoring, exercise classes, health clinics, Senior Rights Assistance and support groups all for a small annual fee.
Shoreline senior living residents may enjoy one of the many community cultural activities and events produced by the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council. Events include theater productions at the Readers’ Theater, local and regional visual art on display at The Gallery At Shoreline, and the annual Shoreline Arts Festival.
Open daily, the Shoreline Public Library supports a library book club, and adult classes and programs.
In addition to the UW Medicine Neighborhood Clinic in Shoreline, there are numerous physicians and group practices in internal medicine, family practice, emergency medicine, general surgery, and specialty areas such as diabetes and endocrinology are available to Shoreline assisted living residents.
Many hospitals and medical centers are located close to Shoreline such as Stevens Hospital in Edmonds, Northwest Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle, and Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett.
Shoreline’s Aurora Village Transit Center is a primary transfer point between the Metro Transit, Community Transit and Sound Transit buses. Shoreline senior living residents are able to travel to Seattle and surrounding cities using the Metro bus system.
In addition, assisted living residents 55 yrs and older may use the King County Senior Shuttle service for a donation or, for residents 60 yrs and older, the Volunteer Transportation service at no charge.
