We did a tour at the Harmony in Virginia Beach and it was a nice tour. They did a great job. The person who toured us was very good, very thorough, and she answered all of our questions. We saw one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments and they were nice. They have a lot of activities like exercises, small groups happy hours, they have musical guests, and church and bible classes. There's a lot of very positive feedback on the activities. At the moment, they do some of the activities in small groups.

We liked The Waterford at Virginia Beach, but it was a little far out for us for visiting. It was clean, nice, and well appointed. I liked the staff that I met there, and we were looking to move my mother in there. It was not quite as nice as the others, only because it wasn't as new, it was a little smaller, and the rooms were not as big as the others, but in general it was clean and nice. The staff was nice, and it was convenient to a lot of things around town. It was just not convenient to us from where I live. We didn't see much of anything going on. They had an exercise room and a really nice balcony on the second floor where residents can go out and just hang out and sit in the sun. They had some game rooms and some activity rooms. It's assisted living and they had memory care, too.

I have Home Instead for five years now. The girl that I got now has been with me for three years straight. I have her 5 days a week 4 hours a day. She takes me to doctor's appointments, she goes shopping and does light house cleaning, and she accompanies me and my cat to the vet. She overly likes animals; she gets along with my cats. I'm pretty comfortable with her and I'm satisfied with Home Instead.

My caregivers are pleasant, interested in helping and most importantly, engage my mother who has dementia. We have been using Home Instead for close to 2 years now.

So far, the experience with Home Instead has been good. I have a very good caregiver. They're helping me with getting my husband organized and shaved. They make sure he gets his medicines on time and they remind me of course. They do some light housekeeping and they fix some lunch for us. My husband is very comfortable. I have already told people about Home Instead. I have very good rapport with them. Both Judy and Beverly have been excellent. Since Judy couldn't come back, Beverly is excellent. She is there when I need her. I can't rave about Beverly or Judy enough. When I need them at the doctor's with me, they're right there. There is no one to compare them to. It is all working out now. The people in the office are excellent as well.

Home Instead has been very good. We haven't used them as much for the last three months, but next week, we're going on vacation and so they're coming. They're very reliable and they're here when we need them. My mom really likes the majority of the ones that they have sent.

I have been using Home Instead for my husband. They feed him. He can eat finger food by himself, but when he has spaghetti, he has to be fed. They also assist me in cleaning him up and changing sheets. I'm pretty much able to do a lot on my own but it is nice to have help when they're here. I have 4 caregivers right now that I'm extremely comfortable with. I don't have any problems at all with Home Instead outside the fact that I always ask for caregivers over 45 because I don't think younger people quite get it.

Harmony at Independence was a beautiful community. The staff was great and very welcoming. The one reason I looked at this place in particular is that my stepfather could move in with my mom even though he may not need care. They have a lot of room options. They're very big rooms especially for independent living, which is really nice. Everything is great with natural light. The woman I worked with was very nice and very accommodating. She showed me all different levels and floors. It has a memory care unit so that my mom, when the time is needed could go into a memory care facility. They have activities, too. My mom is only 65, so she is a younger patient, but this is a much older community and they don't have as many activities that I thought would be stimulating for someone who is younger. They have nail days, they go out to Walmart or to grocery, but to me there wasn't enough activity for a younger independent-assisted living person. It was geared more toward older community. They have a community area, a dining room, and they have happy hours every day. Their rooms were more apartment style, so it was more hotel-ish than home-like.

First Colonial Inn was very clean and well laid out. They had a nice garden in the back. The staff was very nice and very helpful and invited us back. We went back at Christmastime for their little Christmas party to see how the events were. The dining area seemed very nice, and there were menu options for meals. They had games, and we saw the fitness facility. Everything seemed very nice and very well maintained.
