We liked The Waterford at Virginia Beach, but it was a little far out for us for visiting. It was clean, nice, and well appointed. I liked the staff that I met there, and we were looking to move my mother in there. It was not quite as nice as the others, only because it wasn't as new, it was a little smaller, and the rooms were not as big as the others, but in general it was clean and nice. The staff was nice, and it was convenient to a lot of things around town. It was just not convenient to us from where I live. We didn't see much of anything going on. They had an exercise room and a really nice balcony on the second floor where residents can go out and just hang out and sit in the sun. They had some game rooms and some activity rooms. It's assisted living and they had memory care, too.
The Waterford at Virginia Beach was very nice and spacious. There was a piano in the front, snacks and drinks, and there were some people sitting in the front; they looked happy. I liked their dining area, it looked better instead of cafeteria-liked. The layout of the community was good because there was only one way in and one way out, so you have to walk by the front desk to leave. There are no other doors where you can leave the building, so any patient can't just walk or wander off.
The Waterford at Virginia Beach is excellent. They are very personable and work with my father a lot to get him a little bit more acclimated to the atmosphere. He's enjoying himself there. He's having more good days than bad. The staff is kind and seems to know every resident, they're well trained, and have been there for a good number of years. It's a nice and clean facility. It's close to restaurants, grocery stores, and to his church. He seems to like the food.
The Waterford at Virginia Beach was OK, but the people did not seem very happy. The staff seemed fine, but when they were playing bingo, everyone was concentrating on their bingo and when it was over everyone just got up and went to their rooms. There wasn't anyone socializing or actively talking, it just didn't have a friendly atmosphere. The rooms were OK. They didn't have a lot of windows, and it had a hotel feel to it. The building is real high with about four to five levels.
