The Medicaid Assisted Living Waiver Program provides financial assistance to eligible seniors in Las Vegas and throughout Nevada who reside in an approved assisted living facility. The program’s mission is to maximize the independence of seniors in Nevada, and it provides a variety of services, including case management and personal assistance with daily activities.

To be eligible for the Assisted Living Waiver Program, seniors must be 65 years of age or older, reside in an assisted living facility that receives Nevada’s Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and at risk of becoming institutionalized if assisted living services aren’t received. Seniors must also meet the financial requirements of this program, which are available by contacting the Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division Administration Office. Seniors can apply for the Assisted Living Waiver by contacting their local Aging and Disability Services office.

Nevada Home and Community-Based Waiver (HCBW)

Nevada’s HCBW program is for seniors who require additional nonmedical services to continue living in their home or an assisted living facility. Depending on the needs of the senior, the benefits of this program may include assistance with personal care, homemaker or chore services, adult companion services or respite care.

To be eligible for the HCBW program, seniors must be age 65 or older and run the risk of becoming institutionalized if they don’t receive care. Financial eligibility requirements are also in place for this program and change frequently. Seniors can obtain financial eligibility information and apply for this program by contacting their local Aging and Disability Services office.

Nevada Community Options Program for the Elderly (COPE)

The COPE program is similar to the HCBW program. It’s meant to assist seniors who are approaching a nursing level of care and require nonmedical assistance to continue living independently in their home or an assisted living facility. Similar to the HCBW program, services offered to seniors depend on the level of care provided.

Seniors who wish to apply for the COPE program must be 65 years of age or older and be at risk of becoming institutionalized. Seniors can obtain information about financial eligibility requirements and apply for the COPE program by contacting their local Aging and Disability Services office.

Elderlife Bridge Loan

Elderlife Financial Services provides Elderlife Bridge Loans. Seniors who qualify for these loans can choose to have funds sent directly to an assisted living facility to pay for the cost of care. Although seniors are required to repay the full loan amount, interest rates are low, and monthly payments are affordable.

Approval is subject to credit eligibility, but seniors can have up to six co-applicants. Applicants must also be moving into or residing in an eligible assisted living or senior care facility or be receiving regular home health care.

Several groups and programs across Las Vegas and throughout Nevada protect the best interests of seniors.
