  • A Personal Care Home is a dwelling that provides or arranges for two or more adults, who are not related to the owner or administrator by marriage, the provision of housing, food service, and one or more personal services. The personal care home may be operated as a not-for-profit or a for-profit entity as per State of Georgia Rule 111-8-62-.03.
  • An Assisted Living Community is a personal care home licensed by the Department of Community Health to provide assisted living care and serves 25 or more residents as per Rule 111-8-63-.03.

The Georgia Department of Community Health’s Healthcare Facility Regulation is charged with inspecting assisted living facilities and personal care homes.

To obtain a license, whether for an assisted living community or personal care home, applicants are required to provide documents that include a Key People Form that list the individuals who have a 10 percent or more ownership interest in the facility, resident capacity, a floor sketch of the entire facility and an electrical service inspection report which does not contain any violations or hazards.
