I am a past client of this provider

We could not be more pleased with the care and attention our family member is receiving at Harbor Chase in Gainesville. The staff is friendly and engaged with the residents. Staff and management are always available and on the floor. To see the smiles and hear the laughs of those working there or living there assures me Harbor Chase is where I want my loved one to be.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I moved into the Atrium at Gainesville, and it's absolutely wonderful. I haven't met anybody who is not pleasant, and they're very affable. I have a studio apartment with a kitchen and a bath. They have different studios, on-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. They cook all the meals, and they gave us a calendar of activities. They have an exercise room, a beauty salon, a little general store, and a room with a pool table. It's a marvelous experience.

I chose the The Atrium at Gainesville because everyone is so friendly and I like the environment. The community is pet-friendly, they have a heated pool, and there are oodles of activities. So there's a lot of interesting things to do like chair zumba with just the arms, they do Wii bowling, live music during dinner sometimes, they have bell-ringing for the holidays coming up and we can learn. I moved in but have not slept there yet. The price is a little high so it's causing me a little problem. The activities fee is over $3,000, so that's another issue. I have been eating there, but I can't say the food is the best lately. During the tour it was specially good and we were in the formal dining room, but now it's like what they had left. They decorate well, they're friendly, they have a library, and a workout facility, but the food could be better.

My mom stayed at Atrium at Gainesville for 2 years. It was clean, nice, and the people were friendly. The lobby was nice, in good condition, and clean. My mom hated the food, and thought it was the worst thing. She enjoyed the concerts they had in the common area. They would also sometimes have speakers that were enjoyable, and some movie nights that she liked. It got too expensive and she didn't eat the food.

The Atrium at Gainesville offers everything I'm interested in. The staff is very nice and everybody was very friendly. The grounds were very attractive and the location is okay and it's easy to get to. The 1-bedroom I saw was very attractive which is over 700 square feet which is excellent.

My parents will be moving into The Village at Gainesville. They're going to have their own apartment, and people will be coming in to do cleaning and yard work. The staff member that I met there was very nice. I also met their marketing person, and their nurse, and they were real nice. The marketing person was very patient with my mother and step-father about getting into the place. It's located on a street that runs to the west of Santa Fe Community College and there's a major entrance and exit, so the traffic is horrific in the afternoons. Their apartment is a 2-bedroom and 2-bath that's 1,200 square feet. The pricing is more expensive than other places, and for what you get it's pretty high.

I visited this facility

The Atrium at Gainesville was very pleasant and very clean. They offered quite a lot for someone that desires that sort of accommodation. I saw two or three of the rooms, and each one of them seemed to be very pleasant. They're all within one complex. They also provide three meals a day, which is more than adequate. They have a nice large swimming pool; however, I feel the physical apparatus for working out could be a little bit better. The staff member who helped me was very pleasant. The menu was adequate. Their food is not something that I would probably enjoy all the time, but then, I don't think I would eat their food all the time. I have looked at other places in the same company, and The Atrium, in my opinion, for what it is worth, seems to be one of the better ones.

Oak Hammock at the University of Florida was a wonderful place. If you're rich, you can go to this place. The place was nice and bright, and their residents were all decent looking. The apartments were a nice size and well appointed. The villas were also a nice size. They have a lap pool and a park. We were able to try the food and it was OK. They also have full access to the University of Florida for things like their cultural events.

We had my mom at HarborChase of Gainesville for a while. It was very nice, very well-kept, and clean. Overall, we had a very good experience there. We did the assisted living side for a while, but it was a little bit too much for my mom. Nevertheless, we were very impressed with the staff. They were very good. I was very impressed with the directors and I think they were topnotch. They were very involved. If there's ever something you're not happy with, they're on top of it. Their activities director was wonderful as far as involving the residents in activities. They would take them on field trips, they have arts and crafts, and sing-a-longs, which I thought was very good for the residents with dementia, and they play games like Family Feud, which the residents seem to really like. I thought their activities were good.

Medicaid in Florida

Medicaid is a nationwide health coverage program that provides low-income, low-asset children, adults and seniors with a range of preventative health services such as screening for chronic diseases. Medicaid is a joint federal-state program that most states opt to administer through a branch of the state government, although some states contract out Medicaid administration to a private insurance company.

The services provided through Medicaid vary from state to state, and some states offer extended coverage that includes funding for assisted living.

Florida residents age 65 and older may qualify for Medicaid if both their income and assets fall within the maximum limits of the Medicaid program. Known as the VA Aid and Attendance benefit, this pension top-up is open to veterans who are already receiving a regular VA pension. Note that this program excludes veterans who receive a VA disability pension.

To qualify for these benefits, applicants must have at least one of the following conditions:

Note that this benefit is available for applicants who have been assessed at 100 percent disabled according to VA guidelines, and the disability does not need to be service-related.

Qualified applicants may apply to both the VA Aid and Attendance and the Housebound Benefits program; however, they can collect benefits from only one program at a time.
