Medicaid/Medicare Not Accepted
We were able to tour Pacifica Senior Living. It was beautiful, it's brand new, but they do not graduate into Medicaid if needed. It was a little bit higher in price. The rooms were large, the staff was wonderful (very nice), and the dining room was exceptionally nice. They have a community area, a nice library, an outside area that was wonderful, there were lots of plants, and a fountain. The rooms had a lovely bathroom, plenty of closet space, a little extra room here and there depending on where you are, and nice big windows. The residents seemed content and happy, the menu was on the board, and it was very nice. It's just across the street from Walmart. The lady there gave me more information than anywhere we went. She explained her costs, and why they charge what they do, she gave us a complete tour, and she didn't miss a thing. This is a place I would move into. They have a bus that takes them to different places, a complete schedule of different places to go, and they had a nice area where you could fix a cup of coffee anytime.
The number one reason we chose Pacifica Senior Living Ocala for my mom was her finances. The second reason was food and accommodations. The room was a nice and airy large room that's bright. One of the negatives in it was the location because it was farther out from Ocala than what we wanted. It's about 6 to 10 miles from Ocala, it's quite a distance out. I like their staff, the nurse, and the woman who was in charge of sales was very helpful, even the office staff itself like the business manager. Another thing we liked about it is that they're willing to provide transportation for mom to her doctors. The food was good. They had a garden there, it's a place where she could go outside. At her home she loved her backyard, and it has an outside garden there that was very nice. Even though it was backed by stores there were trees, and it looked like it was out in the country. One of the things I really like was the way they handled her death. They called me immediately, they explained that she had been happy the week before, talked to several of her friends on the phone and mixing well with other clients, and she died peacefully in her sleep. They did not push us to have her belongings moved and gave us time to make arrangements. They also helped with the arrangements with the undertaker. She did not get the chance to go on their group outings, but they did offer several different things like lunches and outings. As part of her every day care, she needed pull up incontinent products. When she ran out the staff went and purchased it for her. So they really watched out for and took care of her. I was just really pleased with the staff and the people in general. At one point mom wore compression stockings, and they were helping her put them on in the morning. One of the people that helped her didn't do it quite correctly, so mom took them off. And when I mentioned it to the nurse, she went through retraining with everyone so they would know how to put them on. The only negative I have was that the hallways at times were dim. They had skylights, and I don't know if it was because it's painted darker, but there were no windows other than the skylights into the hallways. So sometimes it was a little dim, although it was lighted. They had activities from 9:00 in the morning until 3:00 or 4:00 in the afternoon, and they do things like playing poker and other cards.
I was very impressed with Pacifica Senior Living Ocala. I wouldn't mind staying there if I feel the time is right. Everything was OK. They have a nice apartment and a nice environment, which I liked. They have about everything available, including a gym. I was invited for a luncheon. They take care of you and your apartment, they take you to the doctor on a bus, and they have entertainment and games. The staff is first class. They are absolutely the best.
Pacifica at Ocala was a very nice, impressive, mid-priced place. The rooms and the common dining room looked nice. It was very clean and organized. They didn't know that I had an appointment, so the person I talked to wasn't working that day, but the person who assisted me was very nice.
