I visited this facility

I'm moving into the Atria at the Arboretum. I didn't get to have a meal there because of COVID, but I made the tour, and I chose a very nice apartment. I'm looking forward to the move. The staff who showed us around was very pleasant and very informative. I appreciated the atmosphere that I saw. Everything was very clean, bright, and homey. I like the courtyard, and as I went up to the fourth floor where my room will be, I enjoyed the view. I appreciate the amenities. I was especially interested in the food. I would have liked to have sampled a meal, but that wasn't possible. I talked to the director who came out and met me, and I told him that was one of the concerns that I had. That's one of the reasons that I was making the move, but they assured me that it was going to be great. I hope and I think it will be. I think it's classy. I love the neighborhood that it's in. I just felt very comfortable. The staff was very open and answered our questions. The carpet in the apartment that I saw was very clean and bright, and the appliances were new. It was just a very pleasant experience. Everyone I met was very pleasant.

I visited this facility

I have visited and toured Brookdale North Austin. The feel was very good, everybody seemed happy, and very friendly. It was very nice. The rooms were small, but they were adequate. They answered all my questions. I was happy with the tour. I saw this place in the morning, so they were just gathering around the front area, but have no actual activity at that time. They have a nice outside area, a patio, some places to sit. The rooms were adequate, but I have seen bigger and nicer rooms. And I think it is an older facility.

Brookdale North Austin looked OK and I know it has a good reputation, but it didn't have that outside entrance, and it would've been hard for my husband. He still drives, but even if we had to go pick him up, it would be too far of a walk from the room to the outside where the cars are. One of our priorities was mobility, and then the second one was to be close to where three of the kids live. The location would've been fine for us, but the mobility was the issue. I saw the outside and we looked in the window of the unit, but I couldn't go in. The person that showed me around was very nice. It's just on Duval on the main street. It's like a motel, and it's a little bit overpriced.

I visited this facility

Brookdale North Austin had an older feel to it. I know a person who lives there, and she has a nice sized room, but it doesn't have any kitchen facility in it. It's just a room with a bathroom. I saw the dining area, but everything looked a little older. It has a really nice outside area with big trees that you can walk around. The facility looked clean.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Our experience with Renaissance-Austin has been awesome. The people are amazing, very helpful, and very accommodating. It's under renovation right now, and they're repainting and replacing things. The property is beautiful, with trees and places to walk, deer, squirrel, and fireflies at night. My father is in a studio that's plenty big, but they also have a two-bedroom, two-bath. The food is excellent. There are a lot of different activities for the residents. It's a great place, and I feel very good about him being there. He's on the ground floor and most of the apartments in independent living have a patio. His patio opens to the lawn, and it's not fenced off, so he's got a lot of area to walk around. They're providing anything that we need. In the dining room area they know where he sits, and they know that he starts with a cup of coffee and that he likes ice cream on his dessert. They go to the line for meals, and they get what they want; it's not served to them. They have couches along the hallway in front of the dining area where people can sit and wait for their meal, and it's set up beautifully.
