Upon visiting Belvedere Commons, I was impressed with the facility, the staff and the programs offered. The facility is beautiful; large but still has a home-like feel. The staff was not only friendly, but very knowledgeable, caring and compassionate. The activities offered would appeal to a wide variety of residents; if you don't like the one offered right now, just wait until the next one! The ability to be a dining setting, enjoy delicious food and socialize is wonderful.
During my mom's first year, the staff seems concerned and Mom apparently received very good care. Around the end of the first year, Mom was wearing dirty clothes every week and her clothes started to disappear (everything was identified by a permanent laundry marker). She never took a bath or shower and we were told that she didn't want to take a shower. I am surprised that a patient in the memory care division is given that option. For the last six months Mom was at Belvedere, she had no sheets or blankets on her bed. While staying there her blankets, two sets of sheets, two sets of curtains. one pair of pajamas, toiletries and assorted clothes just disappeared. Although she was supposed to be under their (Belevedere's) doctor's care, she never saw a doctor unless we insisted. For the price of admission, Belevedere was a major disappointment. Any complaint on my sister's and my part was greeted with a shrug and no answers. At least I do not believe she was abused. Belevedere did provide good balanced meals and stimulating activities for the mentally disabled.
