I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I have a friend at Independence Village of East Lansing. I have always liked the place. They contacted me, so I went over and looked it over and signed in. I liked it there and the price was very reasonable compared to others. I can get a two-bedroom that is about 1,100 square feet. When I have my family over, they actually have apartments that they can use to stay there for a week or two. Everything was very nice. They were nice people. I eat there all the time. In fact, the day I was there visiting, my friend was coming down to dinner about that time, and so they set me up and had dinner with him, too. The food is great there. I was very happy with it. They were excellent. My friend has been there for a while. The building has three stories. There is a huge atrium going around it and there are gardens inside.

My mother-in-law just recently discharged from Burcham Hills Center for Health & Rehabilitation. She has nothing but praise for the entire staff that cared for her during her month-long stay. I can\'t tell you what piece of mind that gave the family members knowing that she was receiving such great care. Even though we were unable to physically visit her, the lines of communication were always open and the staff was able to provide the emotional support she needed when we could not be there. Thank you Burcham Hills, we would definitely recommend you to anyone seeking a rehabilitation stay.

My mother was a past resident of The Marquette. Their staff was wonderful, my mother just wasn't used to living in an apartment, she missed her house, and she missed her dog. The maid service was wonderful, the food was excellent, but she did not have medication supervision, because it was independent living. It's totally beautiful. They had bingo, some computer games, Wii, volleyball, balloon toss, and live music entertainment quite often.

The Marquette was expensive. When you enter it opens up into a big atrium so you can see up to the floors. It would've been overwhelming for my mother. The dining room was large, which wouldn't work for her either. The suites were good-sized, and there were large suites in the corner, which was a plus. The staff was friendly, but we had to wait for them (even though we had an appointment).

We found The Marquette for Mom and she moved there. The staff has been very understanding and very helpful. They have some games, parties around the holidays, they offer trips outside the apartments, and they go to eat off-campus once a week and to casinos. They have movies shown everyday and they have religious programs.

I visited the Marquette, and I would probably consider it. It was in good shape, everything about it was nice, and it appeared to have the appropriate level of activities for my parents, if they choose to be there. They had a lot going on, but not too much, and it seemed like they had a good level of care if needed. You could add on to that care if things progressed. It was actually about five miles from my house, so it’s good. We looked at a one-bedroom that would have been fine, and they were in good shape.

American House Senior Living Riverview was a great community. The staff was very outgoing, polite, and answered all our questions really good. They showed us one of the rooms, the kitchen, and the dining area; everything was just great and I fell in love with it. Their facilities were great and they looked spotless.

My parents-in-law have been at The Marquette for just over one month now. So far, it's been very nice. They have their own private patio and three meals a day. They don't have to let them know if they're going to have guests, and guests are welcome to have meals with them. They have 24-hour emergency care available. Everybody we've met has been friendly, and pets can visit. They have entertainment two to three times a week, and they will arrange doctor's appointment rides for them back and forth. They do some outings that they can sign up to do. The grounds are very nicely kept and you can walk around the building in a garden setting. The room is large and there are snacks available in between meals. As far as senior living costs go, I think it's reasonable compared to others. You get the value for your money. When assistance is needed from the staff, the interaction is positive with me, my in-laws, and my wife. They both have the alert systems so they can just press the button on the necklaces if they need assistance. That comes with being a resident there. So far, I'm very happy with it. The meals I have partaken in have been delicious. I think the place is beautiful and I love it. If I were qualified I'd live there.

I toured Independence Village, and a couple let me look at their apartment. I liked the appearance, activities, meals, and transportation to doctors' appointments. The manager gave me the tour. They supply three meals a day, and overnight, they have a snack bar. They need more apartments because they have a six-month waiting list for a two-bedroom apartment. They have housekeeping.
