Bickford of Aurora was very nice and brand new. It's a beautiful facility, but my parents need more care. They adjust their prices according to the care, but it would've been very expensive for the level of care that my parents would need. The staff was very good, very friendly and gave us a lot of good information. There were people out in the common area playing games. The rooms were nice, but a little on the smaller side. It's a brand new place, so everything was very nice, in good shape, and clean.

Bright Oaks of Aurora was really nice and very attractive. It had everything that we needed, except that we needed a two-bedroom and they didn't have one available at the time. The place was clean, their menus looked good as far as the food, and the people were friendly. It was just a really nice place, but it did not match what my folks needed. Another thing that was good about it was that it was convenient because it was really close to a hospital (only about a block and a half away), so that's nice. I felt like the staff member's answers to my questions were sincere; they weren't trying to sell the place and they were just being honest. The building itself was clean. It looked brand new, it was nice, and it had a good view of the river where the people could sit outside. There was also a walking path.

Plum Landing was smaller and older than other places. The area that it's in seems to be an older area and there was heavily traveled street right in front of the building. The building seemed to be a little older. There was only one unit that had a kitchen. They had a much older population and they didn't seem to have a lot of activities posted. Interestingly, when you walk in the front and speak to the person at the desk, you were on the fifth floor. The building was behind that down a hill. It's not a facility that I would consider. There was a chapel and I saw one area which was part of the dining room. It's used off hours for card playing and things of that sort. The staff member was very courteous and friendly, but they were a little understaffed overall.

I visited the assisted living of Sunnymere, and it's not what I need. It was for residents 65 and older. It seemed OK. The staff was very nice. It didn't smell bad, it had a good atmosphere, and I would recommend them for assisted living.

My brother and I went to take a tour of the facilities, we were looking for a place for our parents. My brother got there early and noticed a woman sitting and began talking to her. She was hanging her head down and was sweating profusely. When asked if she was alright she told him that she had gone out for a walk and got lost. She was new to the area and one of the staff had told her that there were new flowers that had been planted and she should go out and take a look. They told her if she stayed on the sidewalks they would lead back to the front door. It was an extremely hot day (90+ and high humidity). Long story short, she got lost and found herself in a sub-division. Thankfully she knocked on a door where the owner called Alden and someone came and picked her up. She thought she had been gone around 2 hours. When we related the story to our tour guide her response was 'She was only gone about 45 minutes and doesn't know the area'. Needless to say our parents are at another assisted living venue.
