My grandfather lived here for the last 2 years of his life and was a private pay resident. When he passed away they said they would charge us a full months rent if we didn't have his belongings removed by the first day of the next month, which would have been December 1st. He died the day before Thanksgiving and I asked for at least 5 days after his funeral to remove his items and they refused. They were VERY unprofessional and insensitive at his time of death. I wouldn't take a loved one here.
Hello, we are very sorry to hear you had an unpleasant experience at Emeritus at Decatur. We want you to know we have made staff changes including a new Executive Director since. It is not now, nor was it then, the policy to make families remove their loved ones belongings before the family is ready. To the contrary, we usually follow the families lead regarding this issue and allow them the time they need to process and grieve for the loss of their loved one. If you got a different impression about having to remove belongings and vacate the room before they were ready, I can assure you this was not the intent and we sincerely apologize.
This community has gone through about five different names and owners in the last 15 years, which can lead to confusion and can be negative for it's clients. Lately the problems stem from their management and legal issues. They have made national headlines lately. This particular location isn't indicative of the Emeritus corporation. Other Emeritus locations are fairly decent.
