Saint Petersburg is located in Pinellas County, on the Gulf Coast of Florida just west of Tampa. The population was estimated to be 249,688 as of the 2013 estimate, making it the fourth largest city in Florida. Due to its average of 361 days of sunshine each year, Saint Petersburg, called Saint Pete by locals, is also known as The Sunshine City. Saint Petersburg was also named as the top mid-sized city by American Style magazine in 2011, and its downtown is often considered one of the best in the south.

The senior center offers social and recreational activities such as health, fitness, and wellness programs, as well as educational and enrichment classes. Saint Petersburg is known for its dedication to the arts, and as such is home to many art galleries and museums, including the Morean Arts Center, the Saint Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts, and the Salvador Dali Museum. The Saint Petersburg Museum of History and the Florida Holocaust Museum are also in the city for those who enjoy history. Sports lovers will enjoy watching the Tampa Bay Rays at nearby Tropicana Field, which is located on the west side of the city. Saint Petersburg is also home to one of the country’s largest waterfront park systems, meaning there is plenty of beach for residents and tourists alike to enjoy. These parks are also home to many cultural and arts festivals held throughout the year. Shopping venues and restaurants abound in Saint Petersburg, from the arts district, which is home to lots of art galleries and bohemian clothing stores, to the more modern Sundial Shopping Center, where lots of chain restaurants and retail stores are located.
Bayfront Health is the main hospital serving Saint Petersburg. Bayfront Health has been serving the area since 1903 and has won many awards and recognitions for its various specialty departments. Bayfront Health has national accreditation, the Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission, certificates of distinction for both their Primary Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center, and disease-specific accreditation for hip and knee replacement from the Joint Commission. Additionally, Bayfront Health won a performance award from the American Heart Association in 2014.
The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) is the primary public transportation service serving the St. Petersburg area. All buses are equipped with kneeling capabilities and/or wheelchair lifts to ensure accessibility for all passengers. Reduced fares are offered to senior citizens, Medicare cardholders, and eligible individuals with disabilities. Dial-A-Ride services are also available. To get around downtown, seniors can hop aboard the St. Petersburg Trolley.
