This facility is a step down unit. My brother was here for about 6 months at the beginning of covid. We could not visit and did not know he was getting triple the amount of meds he should have, they almost killed him. He was in the memory care unit. DO NOT put your loved one here, the staff was uninvolved, there were no activities, food was rancid, facility smelled of urine.
The independent living of Freedom Village at Bradenton was fine, but the assisted living and memory care were not. The communication with the staff was non-existent. My mom was left to just sit, and no one would bring her to activities or try to engage her in any way. The apartments were small, and it was depressing. It was more hospital-like setting. They didn’t take the residents outside the building. The place was clean, but we were unhappy there. When I moved Mom there, I saw residents sitting in their wheelchairs just staring at a TV. It was the most expensive place in the area, and I didn’t get what I paid for.
My dad has decided on Freedom Village at Bradenton, but he has not moved in yet. They are still putting in new carpets, countertop, and kitchen cabinets. The staff member that we are in contact with has been very good. Their restaurant is highly regarded by other people that I talked to. We talked to a chef who told us that the food in the place is better than a lot of restaurants in the area. From what I saw, they do a lot outings, which is something my dad would enjoy. I am just not excited that it is a buy-in, but dad is excited about the move. He is also excited about taking the computer classes that they are offering there.
I have made an agreement to move into Freedom Village next month. The tour was good. I’m very enthused about it. I looked at about a dozen places, and this was my favorite of all them. I would recommend them.
