I visited this facility

We're in the process of moving stuff into Brookdale New Port Richey, and Mom has the room. We were there in person. They provide three meals a day, but she does have a refrigerator and a microwave in her room. She's on the first floor, and she doesn't have far to walk to go to the dining room or the activity room. It's all on the first floor. They have an RN and six LPNs on duty, they have a house doctor, and different days of the week they have the staff come in. It looked nice, very well-kept, and not beat up.

I visited this facility

We loved Brookdale New Port Richey assisted living. The facility was great and the rooms were fabulous and big. Because it's assisted living, it’s a little more money, but the rooms are nicer and bigger. The laminate flooring looked like a pretty wood flooring. They had availability of all three room sizes so you have a choice. The rooms were extremely spacious, very current in their style, and the flooring and walls were pretty modern. The one-bedroom had walls, and the bedroom obviously was off to the side, and the other two we saw were studios, and one of them had a half wall between the bedroom and the sitting area that would give you some closed off space. You could have a whole bedroom set in the bedroom area, a bed, a chest of drawers, and a dresser. The living room had plenty of room for a sofa, an easy chair, and a sofa table. It was never anything I'd expect for assisted living. The staff was great and the sales director who showed us around was really nice. Along the way, the residents would stop us and say it's a great place to live. I like that they personalize each resident who comes in and provide what is needed and leave them alone when something isn't needed. They had a rule that their nursing staff has to have eyes on every resident for no less than once every five hours. The atmosphere was warm and homey and not like living in a hotel or apartment building. They had three dining rooms and a menu. What's very nice about this place was they had a breakfast menu which you can also use for dinner, a lunch and dinner menu that were available all day long, and then they had lunch and dinner specials. Another thing I like is that the third Thursday of the month is friends and family, so the resident can have family for dinner and they don't have to pay for it. That is a nice thing to do. If family wants to go over and eat lunch or dinner with the residents, it's only $5 which is quite reasonable. They had a chef on staff.

Brookdale New Port Richey is good. I am impressed with it mostly because you are allowed to bring your pet. They have seats outside where you could sit there and look around. It is also close to places of worship. The person who showed me around was good. She was willing to answer questions, showed us around, and introduced us to a couple of people there. They were friendly. We liked the dining room and had a meal there. The dining room was like a dining room that I would have, but the place was clean and well-kept.

I visited this facility

I visited both assisted living and memory care at Brookdale New Port Richey. It's older than the other place we visited. It had three buildings, they're very long, and they have outside space between each building. The hallways were very long, which is OK except if you were in a wheelchair, in which case it might be harder for you to make it to the big dining area. I was looking at it through my husband's eyes, and I thought this would be very hard for him. He would be too tired by the time he got there, and that was a minus for me, although there was nothing wrong with it. I didn't see people in the hallways begging for help. I liked that it was pet friendly; they could have small pets. It was nice that there was a lot of outdoor areas that the residents could go to. They had a rehab place and two big dining rooms. It had a lot more residents than the other one, so you would need two dining rooms. The staff was very nice and very helpful. You would have to bring your own furniture there, which was a minus for me because I would have to break up my bedroom set, and I didn't want to do that. They had activity rooms, but I didn't go into them. I have emphysema and after walking that one long building, I was really too tired to go to any others. It was a long way. It looked very clean to me, but I had trouble with the layout, and that's probably because of my deficiencies; it's too far. If you had a room on the other end of it, it's a long way. That might be good for other people because it would keep them in shape, but for me it ran me out of oxygen.

I liked Brookdale New Port Richey. It was clean. The staff during the tour was very nice and very knowledgeable. They had crafts, bingo, and movies. They had a library and exercise equipment. The dining area was very nice, and the rooms looked good.

I visited this facility

I toured Brookdale and it was not the safest facility. They have long motel rooms with a walkway open to the winds and rain. They have rails on parts of it, but a wheelchair could fall. I don't think old people should be going up and down this area. However, they're revising and updating their memory care, which would cost another $1,500 on top of the $3,000 a month. You need to pay for every step of care needed. The rooms were a nice size, and they had a nice, big, open cafeteria area.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I think things could be handled a little bit better at Brookdale New Port Richey because things aren't getting done as well as they could be at times. My mom is in assisted living, and my dad's in memory care. My dad gets full care since he's in hospice and they're in lockdown. I have to stay on top of things. The staff members are extremely nice. My mom complains about the food all the time since she doesn't feel it's healthy food. The facility is nice.

Brookdale New Port Richey was terrible. The rooms were horrible and filthy, the place was atrocious. I wouldn't put my dog there. The staff members were friendly at least.
