Communication is very much a problem. Took almost 2 years before anyone addressed a care plan. At first care conference they gave 14 days only to have a 30 day discharge on very sparse reasoning that you can't contest. Didn't feel there was effort put into the support. The solution wasn't to try and resolve and support, it was to move to increased care.

My mom is at Lakewood Estates, and it's a very bright and very open place. It has a lot of positive energy, and they have a fantastic staff. They have a big beauty salon, religious services to choose from, a small exercise area, an arts-and-crafts area, pool tables, and theater rooms. It has a lot of amenities and social avenues. It's homey, and I think they do a very good job at trying to keep it comfortable.

I visited Lakewood Estates. The staff members were nice and thorough. The apartments were pretty nice. The kitchens were non-existent, and that was my only issue with it because my mom likes to cook. They showed me an exercise room, a community meeting room, a library, a church, and a cafeteria. I did not eat there, but the menu looked good. The facility looked nice, clean, and maintained.

The staff at The Courtyard at Lakewood seemed friendly, but the rooms were small. They were between 800 and 900 square feet, and we're looking for something a little bit larger for independent living. They offer exercise classes.

I visited this facilityReview of Montage Ridge

For my needs, Brookdale Green Mountain was very nice, but it wasn't a fit. The staff member was very nice, but we both realized very quickly that it was not going to be the right fit. He showed me around, and he showed me a room, which was like a hospital room. It was not cozy at all. I saw a bunch of people who were in wheelchairs, and there wasn't a whole lot going on. The place was clean and seemed well managed; however, it didn't smell good.

We would not consider living at The Courtyard At Lakewood. The atmosphere did not appeal to us. Everything seemed to be alright, but it would not fit our style. Food was OK. However, the room was less spacious. Their lack of security was not too good, too.

Lakewood Estates is a beautiful place. They're very receptive too as we were warmly welcomed. The rooms were all very good. The staff members were excellent. The atmosphere was very good, very inviting and very friendly. The place itself was well laid-out.

My mom moved into Courtyard at Lakewood. It seems pretty nice, the staff is extremely helpful, and it seemed like a nice community. Mom seems to be happy with it. Its very clean, it used to be a hotel, and you get that vibe when you walk into it. They have a number of daily activities which occur all the time, they have a number of different church services for people of different denomination, they have a game room/exercise room, and an absolutely huge dining hall area. They provide shuttle service, light housekeeping, and launder sheets and pillowcases for you. In as far as the number of amenities, theyre the best thing for the buck.

I'm at The Courtyard At Lakewood. Overall it's okay, but certain areas need improvement. The living quarters are nice, clean and kept up. The staff is fine and they have a lot of activities. The food needs improvement. It's prepared good and it's tasty, but the planning of the amount that they need to prepare for their residents needs to be checked into a little further.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Lakewood

Medicaid in Colorado

Medicaid is a joint federal and state program that provides medical coverage to low-income Americans. More than 1.2 million people are enrolled in Colorado’s Medicaid program, Health First Colorado, including children, pregnant women, seniors and people with disabilities.

Eligible Coloradans receive many medically necessary services through Health First Colorado including:

To be eligible for Health First Colorado coverage, state residents must meet the program requirements. One-person households must have an annual income of $16,612 or less. The limit for two-person households is $22,491. Countable assets are capped at $2,000 for individuals and $3,000 for couples. Many assets are exempt, including a primary residence, personal property, household belongings and one car.

Completing an online Colorado PEAK application is the fastest way to apply for coverage. You can also call (800) 221-3943 or apply in person at the Jefferson County Department of Human Services office.

Elderly, Blind and Disabled Waiver

Lakewood seniors who need help paying for assisted living care may qualify for the Elderly, Blind and Disabled waiver. This program provides a number of long-term care benefits, such as adult day health care, homemaker and personal care services. The waiver also covers services provided in alternative care facilities, including assisted living residences, but it doesn’t cover room-and-board costs.

To qualify, seniors must have a significant functional impairment and need a nursing home level of care. The program’s monthly income limit is $2,313, or three times the current Supplemental Security Income rate. Medicaid asset limits also apply.

Optional State Supplementation

The federal Supplemental Security Income program provides monthly benefits to elderly people with low incomes and few assets. Across the country, more than eight million people collect SSI benefits. Colorado is one of the many states that provides top-up funding to SSI recipients who live in assisted living facilities.

Colorado’s Optional State Supplementation program provides up to $551 per month to single seniors and $1,489 to couples who qualify.

Colorado Old Age Pension

The state of Colorado provides financial assistance to low-income seniors through its Old Age Pension program. To receive this benefit, Colorado seniors must be U.S. citizens or qualified legal residents and earn less than $771 per month. Applicants are also limited to $2,000 in total resources ($3,000 for couples).

Assisted Living Bridge Loans
