The activities director at The Courtyard At Lakewood was very helpful, very nice, and very informative. The facilities for two people were tad too small, but they were very nice, and they were far from the elevator access. It was a big U-shaped building and all the apartments were around it. The dining hall was right in the center of that. My wife has breathing and walking problems and that's a drawback. If we were both mobile, I wouldn't have any problem with that. The apartments on the Salisbury side of the street have a little bit of a balcony that you can go out on. The apartment that they showed me was extremely clean, but the hallway could use some updates cleaning wise.
We signed a contract to go into The Courtyard At Lakewood. We chose it because we could get a 2-bedroom unit right away. The amenities that they offer are equivalent to most of the other places. It's an older facility so it doesn't have all the bells and whistles -- like the crystal chandeliers that other places have -- but they offer a lot more amenities. The standard free amenities include TV, free Wi-Fi, heated garage, and there is no charge for loved ones to come in and eat. We have a balcony and storage in the building somewhere. It's well-maintained, cleaned well, and it's 119 units so it's a big facility. They have a huge dining room and they have a big variety of food on the menu. They will accommodate you with most any vegetable you want, and they have small, regular, or large portions, whichever you wish. In that respect it's very accommodating. The staff has all been gracious as could be. The only drawback is the age of the building.
I had lunch at The Courtyard at Lakewood, and the food was good. The people were very nice and the residents seem to be agreeable. The layout of the place was satisfactory. It's a big building and not really impressive.
My parents are at The Courtyard At Lakewood. It's a great location off the main road but easy to get to. The staff has been very accommodating. My parents seem to be doing fine. The rooms are bigger than a lot of other places we looked. My parents are in a one-bedroom that has a small full kitchen and a balcony. When you move in, you get a new refrigerator, a new stove, and a new carpet, and they painted the whole place. The people were very friendly and helpful when we moved in. They really take care of you.
When you walk in the entryway at The Courtyard, you would see that the carpet was really worn. It had a lived-in look that wasn't a warm welcoming feeling. When I got there, there was no one and I didn't know where to go, so I just waited around. It was a while before the staff member came and he seemed distracted that day. It had the same feeling as a hotel. He showed me a room and it looked like a little hotel room that was just widened a bit. The dining room and activities room felt crowded and there's not much open space at all. The place needs updating and there were chips on the walls when you walk down the hall. They should put in new carpets and freshen the walls up.
The Courtyard at Lakewood has apartments available for lease at the independent living level. They don't offer assisted living services but it can be contracted out through a 3rd party home care company. No buy in fees and they do offer month to month rentals as well. Apartments are cable TV ready and it is included in the rent. There are a number of activities and amenities. The most notable include: group events such as BBQ's and religious services. The front desk is staffed 24 hours a day. Private parking is offered and included in the rent. A game room for residents is also available that has a pool table. The community is very pet friendly. The majority of residents are above middle class.
I visited the community a couple of days ago and toured with Marie who as very polite. I was introduced to residents and made to feel welcome. I will be scheduling another tour with my daughter and will be staying for lunch. The community was clean and neat. The residents friendly and the exercise class I observed was very good. The instructor interacted with the residents well.
