This Skilled nursing center and rehabilitation community is within close proximity to Old Town Scottsdale. Easily accessible, the exterior of this one story facility is immaculate with big trees surrounding the facility, providing a warm and inviting entryway. There also were several window a/c units, in addition to the central air-conditioning. Upon entering, to the left was the dining room, and at 4:30 several residents were enjoying table-served desserts and after dinner coffee. The tables were covered with tablecloth, and the only odors were those coming from the dining room - which smelled delicious. Straight ahead was a welcoming sitting area, with a winter-lit fireplace and comfy chairs. The manned nurses station was designed as a very nice reception desk, which fit the overall atmosphere. To the left, was a coffee bistro, complete with decorative jukebox nearby. A private sitting area was nearby, which appeared to function as a game room as well. Overall, this senior auditor would observe a 5 Star Rating!

Facility/Staff: The Gardens of Scottsdale is a beautiful community located in the heart of Scottsdale, Arizona. They are a part of the Five Star Senior Living group and I have always enjoyed the quality of care and service at Five Star communities. The facility is lovely, from the design to the décor, to the convenience. The common areas are cozy and home-like while still being large enough to accommodate different groups of families, visitors, etc. The furniture sets, both indoor and outdoor, are very comfortable – so comfortable, in fact, I often wonder where they shop for the furniture. The Gardens of Scottsdale is multi-care community, featuring Assisted Living, Memory Care, Respite Care, Skilled Nursing Care, as well as Short Term Care/Rehab (such as post-op care). What I really like about this community is that the staff members have specialized training in each particular unit, this means that the residents are receiving a level of care specialized for their particular healthcare need. For instance, if you are looking for a memory care facility for your father, then you can be sure they are being cared by staff members that are trained in caring for people with memory disorders. In many communities you will find that in all care specialties, the staff members are only trained in the bare minimum of what is needed to care for the residents, but that there is no specialized training in different techniques and therapies that will enhance the quality of care even more. Food: The gardens offers restaurant-style dining. The dining room tables are always dressed so lovely in fine-dining white linens. The dining/kitchen staff strive to make meal times a restaurant-like experience for the residents as it is difficult for many of them to get off campus very often for restaurant dining. The menu choices at mealtimes are plentiful. There are typically 4-8 choices depending on the meal. There is always something delicious available for all standard and special diet regimens.
