Turi was outstanding. She was looking after my wife. My wife has progressive supranuclear palsy, which means she is pretty much a paraplegic and she cannot communicate. Turi did an absolutely wonderful job bathing her, talking to her, and engaging with her. She was just very good. She used to do physical therapy type exercises to keep my wife's limbs mobile. That was not actually in her job description, so she went above and beyond what she was required to do. She was very conscientious about trying to do the best she could for my wife. My wife was very comfortable with her. Turi would have been very hard to replace. She was the fourth or fifth one Home Instead brought in. The previous ones were not able to handle my wife and Turi was the only one that was actually able to handle that.

We're using Right at Home for my husband. They sit with him, and it's only a 4-hour shift. He doesn't require anything to be done. They just make sure he doesn't wander off. The caregivers are very nice. I've been pleased with the three different ones that I've had. I feel very confident that they are able to do whatever has to be done. I'm satisfied with the communication. I would recommend them. It would be ideal for any family.

We visited Hilltop House Assisted Living, which was a very nice community. They only had double rooms, and two people share a room. We weren't sure if Mom was ready for that yet. They do have single rooms, but the only one they had available were in the dementia area. The person who accommodated us was very helpful, very knowledgeable, and even the receptionist was wonderfully helpful. They also have nice activities and beautiful facilities. They've remodeled in the last few years and they've gone from the outside kinda looking seedy to a very beautiful location. They play bingo like 25 times a month.

We took a tour of The Willows at Meadow Branch but my mother-in-law can't afford it. It's beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous. We saw the rooms, and they have some bigger rooms also. It's in a beautiful location as well. There was an incident where a resident was crying out for help from inside her room, and the director who was showing us around eventually had to check on the patient because no one else was coming to help. That kind of turned me off. We were there in the morning so there were no activities going on at that time.

Spring Arbor of Winchester was our second choice. It's a very beautiful community, and I believe it's the newest among the places we visited. There's not only a dining area, but also a coffee bar/café area, which was cute. They have a mailbox area for residents to come and get their mail, if they're capable of it. I think they have some physical therapy areas as well. They have three types of rooms, a single room, a single alcove room -- which basically has a sitting area with a separate bedroom off of it, and a single suite that has a bedroom and a door you can close. They're all very nice. The director was willing to work with us and drop the price, but they do not offer a life alert pendant, and we really felt that was an important feature for my mom to have. From the community to the staff, everything was really wonderful. Also we just happened to stop in, and the staff member who accommodated us was happy to show us around.

The Willows at Meadow Branch was very friendly and very clean. They had wonderful food too. The grounds were lovely. The location was good. It was a good place to get to. The rooms that were not full seemed like there was a lot of room, but when people were already in it, it seemed a bit too much to me. I guess it depends on what kind of furniture you have and how you place it. There is a lot of potential there. The staff members were really knowledgeable. Everybody was very friendly. The menu was good. It was varied, and it looked good.
