AVOID this place. They offer neglectful treatment in a cold, dark, uninviting home (it is NOT the lovely environment the pics show, those are real-estate pics when they bought the place) and complete social isolation. Brought 87 year old mom w/dementia as an ADL able, ambulatory, social woman and left 3+ months later barely able to walk bc they let her stay in bed all day every day. Even eating most meals there, found her once lying flat with her bowl of food on chest. I found her multiple times saturated in her nighttime brief late in the day (she toilets during daytime). Day I moved her she was so saturated that the sheets above her, the mattress below, and everything in between to include her was dripping wet with urine. The terrible "caretaker" simply walked out while my BFF and I cleaned her up, defiantly yelling back to me "its not my fault!" and yet never offering to so much as help, never mind that I had already paid for the day! She instead sat in the LR on TikTok, blaring. And nutrition....I have never seen so much meals that consist of cheap hot dogs, chicken fingers and punch. And they advertise a sort of elder community in the house. Never happened. No social activities, games, outings or meals together. Not even communal TV time. The owners explained this lack of socialization by explaining to me that it was my moms fault, she upset the house dynamic. Come now. Thats how you manage it? Had no problem taking $$$$$ but could not employ a caretaker that was able to redirect a 87 year old, 110 pound frail woman? Shame on all of them for caring so neglectfully for this very vulnerable human being. Btw, pleased to know once I took mom out of Serenity Care of VA, she again began walking, toileting, socializing and engaging in life again. Not a single outburst....proving its all in how you handle people with this disease. And Serenity, definitely does not know how.

We did a tour at the Harmony in Virginia Beach and it was a nice tour. They did a great job. The person who toured us was very good, very thorough, and she answered all of our questions. We saw one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments and they were nice. They have a lot of activities like exercises, small groups happy hours, they have musical guests, and church and bible classes. There's a lot of very positive feedback on the activities. At the moment, they do some of the activities in small groups.

We liked The Waterford at Virginia Beach, but it was a little far out for us for visiting. It was clean, nice, and well appointed. I liked the staff that I met there, and we were looking to move my mother in there. It was not quite as nice as the others, only because it wasn't as new, it was a little smaller, and the rooms were not as big as the others, but in general it was clean and nice. The staff was nice, and it was convenient to a lot of things around town. It was just not convenient to us from where I live. We didn't see much of anything going on. They had an exercise room and a really nice balcony on the second floor where residents can go out and just hang out and sit in the sun. They had some game rooms and some activity rooms. It's assisted living and they had memory care, too.

I have Home Instead for five years now. The girl that I got now has been with me for three years straight. I have her 5 days a week 4 hours a day. She takes me to doctor's appointments, she goes shopping and does light house cleaning, and she accompanies me and my cat to the vet. She overly likes animals; she gets along with my cats. I'm pretty comfortable with her and I'm satisfied with Home Instead.

My caregivers are pleasant, interested in helping and most importantly, engage my mother who has dementia. We have been using Home Instead for close to 2 years now.
