I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

We had a bad experience here. My mother was admitted to the nursing care section. She could not get out of bed by herself and needed assistance with all of her daily activities. We thought this would be a good place for her. The facility looks nice and modern. Some of the staff are very good, but some of them are very bad. When we reported problems to the management, they would act concerned until we left. When we returned it was evident that they took no action to correct the problems. Sometimes my mother would get confused and refuse to take her medication. My brother, who lives nearby, instructed the nurses to call him if this happened so he could get her to take the medications. Without these medications she could die. When we called they said my mother was taking her meds. After a couple of days it became obvious she was not despite what they were telling us. When my brother confronted one of the nurses, she claimed she tried to call my brother when my mom refused to take the meds, but could not reach him. My brother pulled out his cell phone, and there were no calls from Brookdale. The nurse lied to his face about calling. My mom had to have injections to get her blood level back to normal. My mom insisted that she wanted to have her wallet with her, even though there was no need for it here. We brought it figuring that we could remove the money from it the next day, since she would not need it. My mom was moved to a new room that evening. My brother came back the next day and found that the money had been stolen. The credit cards had been removed from the wallet and were found elsewhere in the room. This had happened overnight when my mom was moved and she had no visitors. One of the staff took her money when they moved her, as she could not get out of bed unassisted. We reported this to management, who seemed to be concerned, but they took no action. We started to look for a new nursing home, since it was scary to think that one of the people taking care of my mom had stolen from her. Before we could find another nursing home, there was another major incident. My brother came to visit and found my mom covered in blood and bloody tissues around the room. She had evidently been like this for a while and nobody at Brookdale had checked on her. My mom had an oxygen tank to assist her breathing. The oxygen tank has a water reservoir to keep the air moist. It is dangerous to give dry oxygen to an elderly patient. The staff at Brookdale had failed to check the water level and the water had run dry. This caused severe bleeding in her nose. She had to be rushed to the emergency room at the hospital where she had to endure a painful procedure for days to stop the bleeding. We found another nursing home for my mom. My mom has since passed away, and I have no doubt that this last episode hastened her death. This emergency was caused by incompetence by the staff or it could have been retribution for us reporting the stolen money. Either way it was inexcusable.

The location of this residence is everything... the Galleria area is the place to be. Many places to eat, shop, sight see, and more. There's never a reason to be bored in an area like this. The building was a bit older than other ones I've visited, but it was very well kept. The staff is very friendly and they make you feel comfortable. The food smelled amazing. The residents seemed to be enjoying it.

Very classy senior living community, with a staff to match. The staff seemed very personable, knowledgeable, and caring. The food smelled wonderful and all of the living spaces that I saw were clean and decorated nicley.

Brookdale Galleria is a senior community that provides care for skilled nursing, assisted living, and independent living. I like the three levels of care because it allowed my loved one to receive care based on their changing needs. The facility is located in a high traffic area that have many restaurants and shopping options. If your loved one is looking for an upscale facility, this is the place. It offers an exquisite living experience with a "homely" feel. There is a dining facility located on the property that provides meals and kitchens in the residents' apartments. The meals are served to the residents at table side, and allow residents to socialize with other residents. I would like to see more options at mealtime for residents who have cultural food preferences or residents who prefer other eating options. Nevertheless, the meals were healthy and delicious and the kitchen staff was respectful of special request. Although activities are provided, I would like to see the implementation of more activities that offer choices to get every resident involved. My father was hesitant about spending any time in a long term facility. I think that he would have been less hesitant if the facility could have found something that caught his interest. This facility does provide occupational, speech, and a variety of therapy that promotes the overall health of the resident. Almost everything the resident needs is provided "on site." Furthermore, transportation options are available. The facility was clean, organized, and had attentive staff. They are on call 24 hours a day. Also, the staff members were friendly and happy to assist. The facility is a facility that believes in improvement. They accept suggestions and are very innovative. This is a facility you can grow with and a home you can live out the remainder of your golden years in. If your loved one likes upscale amenities, independence, and an on call staff, this is the place. Brookdale Galleria is a good facility that strives to make every resident feel at home. This facility is definitely in the top tier of the long term care facility list. It is a little pricey, but you can modify a small portion of the price depending on the services that you get.

It is in a great location. It has a very high class, prestigous feel to it. The building is older but they keep it in good condition. There are many floors so you must feel comfortable taking the elevator.
