I visited this facility

We visited the Sommerset Neighborhood. It was nice and very clean. The staff was very friendly and informative. They had a lot of information. The rooms were very clean. Everything seemed very organized. While we were there we saw a staff member responding to a resident in need, and they were very quick. They were really on the spot to a buzzer. That was super impressive because they didn't seem to notice that we were there. They also showed their memory care unit, and it was a nice, comforting place. It was good. The rooms were a little bit smaller, but the building was very nice.

My husband and I will be moving into Village on the Park - Oklahoma City. They're very friendly, welcoming, and I think it will be a successful living condition for us. The staff was very nice. The client representative was excellent, and the director was very friendly and considerate of what we might need. The apartment was just under 300 square feet, so for two people it's small, but it's livable. We're moving into independent living, but my husband will be moving into assisted living when that's available. They have a library, courtyards, a nice park across the street, a small exercise room, and an exercise activity three days a week. There's a canasta group that they're starting, which I love because I play canasta. Three meals a day for both of us will be advantageous, and a medical facility is available for us as needed. Housekeeping once a week is included, which includes washing the sheets. I would need to do the rest of the laundry, but they have laundry facilities there for no charge. They have eight or ten washers and dryers; you just go and help yourself. I met three staff members, and they were very nice, competent, and very knowledgeable.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad was at Sommerset until March 2020. He was in the assisted living before being moved to memory care. I would want my dad to go to Sommerset again if need be..Everyone even including the handyman were always eager and pleasant to meet any of my dads needs or our requests. My dad was comfortable there. I would and do recommend this facility.

We have a relative that is being referred to the memory care unit. We toured the memory care unit at the mansion. It smelled bad the moment the door was opened. The floors, walls and rooms were filthy with damages and filth on walls and floors. The meal was presented in a very unappetizing fashion. The staff looked unkept and unprofessional. For the amount these patients pay for their care, there is no excuse for the lack of dignity offered to them. Our hearts are heavy after viewing what these elders are enduring.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother is now at Legend at Rivendell. It is very impressive. The staff is very friendly. I know all of them. They have my number and they text me all the time. They send me pictures of my brother and tell me how he is doing. I couldn't have found a better place. They have different activities set up. They also have things set up where they go places once a week. They have in-house doctors and an in-house nursing staff. It is just a really good place. It is fully staffed too. The dining area is like a four-star restaurant. The place doesn't even remind you of a facility, and my brother has an apartment with a living room and a bedroom. They do a lot of activities. The activities director is a young guy who is very spirited. He really gets involved with the people.

Buffalo still roam the plains at Rockwell RV Park just eight miles west of the city along State Highway 270 while Fortune 500 corporations thrive downtown. Renting a home in Oklahoma City costs less than a third what it would in New York City; the bill for a meal in a restaurant here is slightly more than half what it costs in the Big Apple. Other popular sports include ice hockey, baseball, women’s soccer and roller derby.

Residents in Oklahoma City have their choice of two senior activity centers where they may enjoy a wide range of pursuits for citizens aged 55 and over. There is something for all ages and abilities, including art classes, card games, dance classes, moderate to high impact exercises, history discussions, learning languages, quilting and other sewing activities, social gatherings, travel and yoga. Both the Will Rogers Senior Center and Woodson Park Senior Activity Center offer specialty programs on financial planning and senior health issues.

Medical Facilities

World class medical facilities are essential to Oklahoma City independent living. The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is home to the state’s only Level 1 trauma center. This is the highest level of trauma care as defined by the American College of Surgeons. OU Medicine is an academic medical institution also housed on campus. It encompasses, among other things, the Oklahoma Cancer Center and OU College of Medicine. The city is also blessed with a number of hospitals owned by INTEGRIS Health, including the Baptist Medical Center, Cancer Institute of Oklahoma and the Southwest Medical Center. US News and World Report gave Baptist Medical high marks for its performance in cardiology, Geriatrics, orthopedics, gastroenterology, pulmonary and urology, among others. In total, there are 347 physicians for every 100,000 people in Oklahoma City.

Transportation

Major state highways include the Kilpatrick Turnpike, Lake Hefner Parkway, and Broadway Extension. Two primary airports also serve the city. The Oklahoma City bus system services 465 miles of metropolitan area. Regular bus riders may even get to know their bus drivers. METRO Transit runs the bus and trolley services. Of special appeal is the Oklahoma City Spirit Trolley, a reproduction of the American Heritage Streetcar, providing a touch of nostalgia as well as a journey from A to B. Amtrak connects the area to Forth Worth, Texas, with a daily service while Greyhound and other bus services connect the town to the outside world. Oklahoma City has a lot to offer the Baby Boomer generation desiring Oklahoma City independent living. Medical and social needs are well catered for and the senior motorist will have no problem navigating in and out of the city. With freezing cold winters and frequent tornadoes in the summer, the weather may be more lively than some over-55s find desirable, but the city’s residents are accustomed to these climatic quirks and take them in their stride.
