I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

A lot has changed at Laurelwood since my mom has lived there. The interior is a little dated but in very good condition. The manager team has remained the same now for a couple of years and the food has finally gotten to be \'great\' according to my mom. She is always telling me how much fun she has at activities and looks forward to ice cream sundaes on Thursdays. We are pleased with the care that she gets and have had good correspondence with the Director of Nursing.

My mother-in-law is at Wood Glen Alzheimer's Community, and so far, it is fine. She is not liking it, but she has some confusion issues, so we are just trying to figure out what the long-term plan is going to be. Because of COVID we can't go in and visit her, so I have not met any of them. It is just phone calls. But in the phone conversations, the staff has been fine. She is in quarantine right now, and it sounds like in a few days she will be able to come out of quarantine and move to another room, and she is excited about that. She seems to think that will make her happier. She seems satisfied with the food for the most part. She seems to be comfortable with her room. For rehab they are able to provide her with physical and occupational therapy and some cognitive rehab, and those are the main things we were looking for at this point.

We thought Brookdale Oakwood was nice. It seemed like a pleasant community, and the one room we saw seemed like a nice size. The staff was friendly. They said they had activities, but I didn't notice any going on. The dining area had tablecloths, and it looked very nice and homey. They had a soda fountain just off of the dining room. The folks that were sitting around seemed happy.

We considered Patriot Ridge (Trinity Community) for our mom. The room we saw was a double occupancy whereas the place we ended up choosing had private rooms. My general impression was that the place was very nice, although the memory care unit was small. It seemed that the hall they were in is a bit constricted. But overall, it was good. Because the rooms were shared, they seemed small and didn't have much storage either. The staff members that we met were pleasant. We were there during the evening so there were fewer people around and the director had already gone out for the day because it was after 6:00. We encountered someone who help us although it wasn't her job to give the tour, she was very helpful. There were a couple of staff members working in the memory care after hours. The facilities were nicely decorated and seemed well-cared for.

Landings of Huber Heights Assisted Living is a nice, brand-new facility, but it's also very costly. The person who toured us around was very accommodating, and very nice. I would highly recommend them but they're just not something my mom could afford. The dining area was nice. They have stuff available for the residents to do, but they don't have specific rooms for those. The rooms were nice. The place was very clean and the layout was nice. It's just a one-story building.

Laurelwood Senior Living was drab looking, and they didn't seem friendly. The studio apartment was small with just a bed, a desk and a loveseat. The colors were drab and not very colorful or inviting. The people didn't seem too happy to see us. We didn't even finish the tour. It was $600 more than the nice apartment my sister has currently. It just didn't appeal to us.

My mother has hospice care at Heartland of Beavercreek. It's adequate and they communicate with me. They call about once a week to let me know what's going on with her. It's not small, but it shows its age a bit. It appears clean overall. The room size that she's in could be improved upon. It's like closed quarters. She was in their rehab section where the rooms were bigger and a little bit nicer. It's not quite as nice when she went to the hospice care, which is in a different part of that same building. In the rehab section, each bed has its own television, whereas the one she has now does not. It's a little cramped in there. The staff has been very helpful.

My mom is here, it's clean, nice, and the people are very friendly. Sometimes I hear the residents complain that the food is cold, but that's the only complaint I've ever heard. I'm very happy with the staff. They have a beauty salon, and they have a room that has a few books in it.

My mother is in the memory care unit of Laurelwood Senior Living. It's very nice. It's a three-story unit, but there's no nursing care or independent living there. The secure unit is on the third floor. We chose them because of the level of care and also because of the cost. They are only self-pay for the first six months and they're in the process of getting her Medicaid approved. The staff is wonderful and very attentive, and just trying to figure out how to get her situated from one place to the other. They play bingo, they have people come in and play music for them, and they do art projects. She said the food is good.
