Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Kansas City

Missouri Independent Living Waiver Kansas City Medicaid recipients may qualify for the&nbsp;<a href="https://dss.mo.gov/mhd/waivers/1915c-home-and-community-waivers/independent-living.htm" target="_blank" data-mce-href="https://dss.mo.gov/mhd/waivers/1915c-home-and-community-waivers/independent-living.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer">Missouri Independent Living Waiver</a>, which provides financial help with in-home care as well as facility services. This waiver may also help cover personal care essentials not included in a Medicaid plan, such as specialized medical equipment and environmental accessibility adaptations. This waiver is not just for seniors, but seniors can retain enrollment after age 64 if they meet the program’s criteria for income, assets and medical need. To apply for this program, contact the The Department of Health and Senior Services, Division of Senior and Disability Service or a MO HealthNet representative at (573) 751-3425. Supplemental Nursing Care Seniors who qualify for nursing home services or mental health services in a hospital setting can apply for the&nbsp;<a href="https://mydss.mo.gov/ncare" target="_blank" data-mce-href="https://mydss.mo.gov/ncare" rel="noopener noreferrer">Supplemental Nursing Care</a>&nbsp;program. The program helps offset the expenses of assisted care, and it also provides an allowance of up to $50 for personal needs. Additional monthly cash benefits are $156 per month for seniors in residential care facilities and $292 per month for seniors in assisted living facilities. After a resident in one of these facilities pays their required portion of expenses, the state helps cover the remaining costs. Seniors interested in the program must be at least 65 years old, and disabled applicants considering nursing home care need to be 21 or older. Applicants cannot have given away or sold any real estate or personal property for a price below fair market value during the last five years. If the applicant is married, they can request asset protection for the spouse remaining at home.

Medical providers treat Medicare as the primary insurance company and MO HealthNet as the secondary insurer when a senior has plans with each provider.
