I was a resident of Traditions at Solana's assisted living while my husband was in the memory care. The appearance of the community was very nice, and it was very nice inside and everything. They were near a small lake and they were very good at having things outside that you can set up on different lawns and patios; it was very nice. They had an independent section which were small cottages that went down a long street that's connected with them. I stayed there before moving into the assisted living. They didn't list it as independent, but they allow you to move in and pay less than assisted living. They have new directors now. There were no issues while I was there, and I didn't use a nursing aide. If I needed someone, they were there right away to help you. And that's the one thing that I miss compared to my current community. They had excellent activities and things during the day, like different ladies groups for braiding hats or doing jewelry. There was a van that has a nurse driver that drove people where they wanted to go. The food was good and it had a nice dining room, but the food was not always what you wanted; but I guess it's like that everywhere. The place was good and it was clean. The only thing was that they used to take Medicaid but that changed with the new directors and everything, so they stopped giving out Medicaid for new patients. It's not the cheapest game in town.
They did not change his clothes. They did not bathe him. They did not transport him to dining room for meals, they served them in his room after we expressly told them not to do that. Most were still untouched after 9 days. There were feces on his sheets and on his toilet and bathroom floor but none on his diaper so it had been there for awhile. He fell while he was there but they did not notify his doctor or anyone in his family. They said they called the doctor but they lied. The nurse who told me about the fall when we picked him up was let go. A beautiful facility in all the common areas, lots of expensive furniture, but the care is no good.
Traditions at Solana was nice and brand new. The lady who assisted us was really helpful and friendly. She knew almost all of the residents and was really positive about the place. What I really liked about it was it's on the river with water on three sides of it, so almost all the rooms look out on water and it was really pretty. It's in the city but tucked away, so it doesn't feel like it. They have a salon, exercise place, outdoor area with grill where they sometimes cook outside, a movie room, and little library. A guy was playing music when I was there.
I had very definite things that happened at Solana that don’t happen in other places. I walked in there, and everybody is enjoying themselves. Both the staff and patients are laughing and talking, and it kept going through the whole tour of the place. There were people quietly playing bridge and some people in the snack bar happily and noisily playing Uno. In other areas of the property, people were just having fun and doing stuff. A lot was going on, and it looked to me like most of the people there were in the 70’s or 80’s. The place is clean and well-painted, and the décor is neat.
