I found Sunrise at Fountain Square to be a very pleasant space. The folks are very engaged. I like that they have a dog, which is sort of a comfort pet. He is a very gentle, large fur ball. It is nice. My mom likes their dog. It is taking my mom some time to adjust, but they are trying for her to meet other people. This is a very comfortable, pleasant place for her to be given that she had to give up the condo she has been living in for 45 years. The other thing that is very important to us is that they have a doctor, an eye doctor, and a podiatrist that predominantly see them. That's very helpful because it is very difficult to get my mom to appointments since she can't walk on her own. Whatever arrangement they have, these physicians come and visit them once or twice a week. They will bill you through your Medicare just like they would have if you go to their office. They're there, and that's huge. We have been happy with it. The food is delicious. My mom is getting a much greater variety than what she had. You get a typical American variety of cuisines and also beer and wine. She likes that they have a glass of wine with the food. They have an enormous amount of activities, but my mom has not taken full advantage of that yet. This is certainly not the cheapest or the most expensive, but it is a very nice place for what they charge.
My mom is in Sunrise. The care has been excellent, so far. She is getting her hydro three times a week and not being rushed like she was at the other place she used to live. They really try to clean the residents and make them feel that their needs are being met. The food is really good. She is in a shared apartment for the first time. Her bedroom is a nice, large room, and the shared common area is small. They have been going to various activities, get manicures on the weekends, and have dances. On Friday night, they had a sing-along with the Sunrise chorus, which was lots of fun.
My cousin has been receving very good care at Sunrise at Fountain Square for about 3 ½ years now and is very comfortable. The meals are really good. He is a big eater, so they always give him double portions if he wants. They have a good variety of food on the menu. They have an on-call doctor who comes periodically. You can also have your own doctor visit. They have registered nurses and a lot of caregivers who really care. The place is very clean and well maintained.
