My mother is at Governor's Glen. I talked to her and she seems to be in good spirits. I'm getting good reports back from the staff. I'm OK with her being there. It's clean, well kept, and the staff was friendly. The communication has been OK. She's in a two-person room, which is sufficient and fairly well lit. I was able to move her bed, a dresser, and a chest of drawers in. I was able to see her participating in a sing-along that they recorded and posted online. She's in a good place. It had an institutional feel, but it's well maintained and clean, so it still has a homey feel. The staff also makes it homey. I'm satisfied so far.
We chose Governor's Glen Assisted Living for my mother. They're very friendly, very thorough, and very easy to work with. There's no smell or anything like that, it's very clean, and they seem to have it all under control. They have good staff, but I think they're a little short, and they need to have more physical activities. They had a screened-in porch area, so you don't have to worry about mosquitoes.
Governor's Glen was so-so. I had an appointment, but the gentleman was meeting with someone else, so I walked around with one of his assistants. He did apologize and call me several days later, but I decided that it wasn't the place I was looking for. It didn't have a good vibe, although what I saw overall was OK, and I didn't see anything that stood out. The receptionist greeted me and showed me a few places and some rooms. They were in the process of doing some renovation. The room was OK, but it was empty and felt cold. The size of the single room was comparable to other places. The people were very friendly and nice.
Governors Glen was closer to my home and they're able to take care of his dementia. Even if he gets to the point where he needs to go into hospice care, they'll still let him stay there and hospice will take over from there. He really has enjoyed it and we have no complaints. They're very welcoming and I can come in whenever I want. It's pretty good and they make sure his clothes are clean, give him his medication, and make sure he's bathed. He's happy. He likes the food and says it's good. They cook the food and there's nothing brought in on a tray, so they eat off of a regular plate. He can go outside and we don't have to worry about him wandering in the street because the place is a maze. The path leads him right back into the facility so he can't get lost.
