Desoto Beach Club is a little pricey, but it's a perfectly decent place to live. It is my impression of this place that it is as well-managed economically to support the level of living. It isn't wealthy, it isn't lush, but it is comfortable. It is barely adequately staffed, but I understand the necessity there. It is not particularly low rent, but it is decent. The level of services provided as we're coming out of lockdown is totally adequate. You get what you pay for. They also permit pets. I have a cat who is sitting on a couch, there are a couple of delightful small dogs, and there is a large dog that is a breed that I had never seen before, but who is an utterly delightful dog. They permit that which is nice. I've got a 2-room apartment, a bedroom, a sitting room with a kitchenette area, and a perfectly adequate shower and bath. There are services to grocery stores, doctor appointments, and when we're not in a pandemic situation, there are excursions, too. We're close to the Ringling Estate. There was an expedition to the Ringling Museum, and there have been expeditions out to the ocean shore for luncheon at a seafood restaurant. It's like summertime in Chicago. They have a salon and an activity room. And because there have been Corona virus infections in the building, the unit has been on lockdown for about two months. We're no longer in lockdown, but there were no sponsored activities and meals were delivered to the apartments. There was no dining room activity, too. But they are now beginning to crank up again. Yesterday afternoon, I went down to the area they call the library to look for something and in the activity room which is next to the library, there were group of people playing Pinochle. In more reasonable times, the Bridge Club will probably start going, and there's a book group. So there's no question, it's definitely congregate living. On lockdown, those activities stopped. We have been coming off. The food is C+ B-, with the occasional A, and the very occasional F. Food is decent, and sometimes they serve something I just flat out don't like.

Desoto Beach Club is a total quality institution in every way. The staff and management always go beyond to perform in a total quality way. I've been here 2 years, and I'm totally pleased with the facility. And I'm thankful to God that I'm in a such a nice place. I'm very, very pleased. I

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom has moved into Desoto Beach Club. That is Holiday Retirement Center and those are the only ones anybody should send their loved one to because they honestly care. I love it. It is very clean, very bright and open. There are rocking chairs and benches all over the front area. When you first walk in, it has a three-story ceiling in the dining area. Beyond that backside of the doors, there you can see right when you come in the front is a big swimming pool area. They also have a library and a gym. They are just fantastic. Everything is clean. When it is lunch or dinner time, the people in the offices would stop everything that they're doing and serve all the residents. How nice is that? That way everybody gets to know everybody. They never wonder about the people in the office because they get to know them on a regular daily basis when they get served their meals by them. I think that's fantastic. There's nobody that is above anybody else there. They all have different jobs but when it comes to meal time, they all become one team and it is nice. The food is very good, too. They have indoor exercise and outdoor swimming pool exercise. There is a walking trail around the building, there's a pool table and a card table, they have bingo, they have trivia, and they have singing. I love Desoto Beach Club. It is very homey, and everybody has been wonderful. It is a good place and I like the location, too.

I visited this facility

Desoto Beach Club was a good place. We liked it a lot, so did my brother-in-law. The facilities were very nice, but he can't afford that. The staff was great. They had studios and 1-bedroom apartments. They had an arts area, a pool, and water aerobic classes. It was very well laid out, and the program was really nice. They had activities planned for the residents.

I visited this facility

Desoto Beach Club was absolutely marvelous. I would move in immediately, but you have to move out when you need assistance. You can't stay there because it's just independent living. The residents I met were marvelous, and the staff was lovely. It was a really nice place.

Things seem to be going OK at Desoto Beach Club. There are a lot of card games, and there's music at the atrium during lunchtime. The pool is heated and covered, and I do physical therapy in the pool, which I enjoy very much. I feel it's good for me. The staff has been very nice. They're understaffed, especially at mealtimes, but the girls that are there work very hard and do a good job. The food is average and the physical appearance is very good. Everything is fine as far as cleanliness. They mop the floors, vacuum, clean the bathroom, and change the bed linens and the towels once a week.

I Visited This Facility

Desoto Beach Club is very good. It is pretty close to where I'm at now, so it is not a big change for me. They have a game room, and there is a big room that most of the residents go to and watch movies. They take them out by bus to a grocery store or other places they want to go. The activities are quite good. The staff members are very good too. They're very knowledgeable about everything. They have a couple of rooms that were recently renovated.

Desoto Beach Club is a very nice, organized community. One of the things I like is the pool, which I haven't seen in other independent living places I've visited. The staff is very informative and well versed about the community. I think the food is really good, but we just had a change in the head chefs, so that kind of upset it a little bit. There are plenty of activities; we play cards two nights a week at least, and bingo, arts and crafts and also things like tabletop discussions, current events, and so on. We have very friendly staff, who do everything from housekeeping to food service. The value is not as high as some and not as low as other senior communities.

I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

My mother moved into Desoto Beach Club. It's an excellent community, and her room is spacious and perfect for her. They have more activities than she can participate in a day, so it's literally like a vacation club and she really loves it. The people are very nice and happy. They stay there until the end. The staff is extraordinary, very kind, loving, and helpful. My mother also really likes the food. I would highly recommend this place.

Desoto Beach Club is very friendly and the food is good. They have lots of activities and entertainment, and they serve three meals. They have bus transportation from here to your doctors on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You have to make your appointments to fit in with the bus schedule. The staff is extremely helpful and pleasant.

I Visited This Facility

Desoto Beach Club was clean. Everybody was very knowledgeable and super friendly. Anybody who worked there, particularly the people in the office, would jump in and help in the kitchen area if needed. The food was great. They had a variety of floor plans, and their prices were very fair. They were willing to work with us with the money. The rooms were upgraded and very sizable. They're working on all of them right now. The grounds were very clean and manicured. They had lots of fun things and would provide transportation to and from their doctors' offices, various malls, shopping places, and grocery stores. A couple of times a month, they would have a big outing where everybody would sign up to go. One time, they took them up to the horse races in Tampa, which was great. They had a beauty shop and a laundry room. They let everybody be their individual self, which struck me. They're also very veteran-oriented and even have a wall of honor up there.

I Visited This Facility

Desoto Beach Club was nice, and had nice people and good foo. They had a lot of very good activities and amenities. They got transportation to wherever you want. The rooms were smaller than what I wanted. They served three meals a day, so you don't have to cook in your room. The staff and residents were good. They had studios and 1[one-bedrooms. It's an older facility, but not that old.

I was interested in the 1-bedroom apartments in Desoto Beach Club. It was very pleasant and the people were very nice and helpful. They answered all the questions that I had, and they said they'll keep in touch with me. They take the residents on tours and shopping, or when they have to do their banking. I had lunch there, and they serve food three times a day. Some of their amenities include a pool, and a game room where you can play pool, ping-pong, or Wii bowling. They also have a washer and dryer on each floor.

Desoto Beach Club is very nice, and my mom has met very nice people. It's very clean, and the management has done a really good job at connecting. They have an on-site physical therapist, a nurse on call during the day, a nice variety of activities, and they have just done a really nice job with helping my mom during her stay. They have a nice cafeteria, and the food is OK but not homemade. Otherwise, mom's very happy there.

We stayed for 6 months at Desoto Beach club. My wife, slipped, fell, and fractured her hip there. The apartments were very basic, like off campus apartments back in my college days. We were not able to get housekeeping services, which was once a week. Their food leaves a lot to be desired.

We saw Desoto Beach Club when we visited the place. We initially liked it, but we talked to some people who moved out of the place and to a resident in the elevator who said that the management had changed and the quality had gone down. The manager who gave us the tour said to us to disregard the carpets because they are going to be replaced soon, but the residents told us they were being told that for two years now. The carpet did look pretty bad.

We went to Desoto Beach Club, which was really nice, and we really liked it. It was more open and user-friendly to me because it was all open for dinner. It's independent, but I think they have assisted if you need it. There's a big dining room with people sitting around smiling and waving to you. The lady showed us three full rooms which were very nice, and we stayed for lunch, then I went outside and looked at the pool while my mother sat with some ladies. It was just a really friendly atmosphere. If she had a choice, that's the one she would go to. The food was very good. The day we were there, they were having a St. Patrick's Day party, so they had two men come in and play instruments and sing, and people came in and sat with them and took requests. They also had a room where they play cards.

Desoto Beach Club impressed me. I thought, "Boy, my dad would like to live here." We went inside, but we didn’t see any of the rooms. The amenities and the dining area were nice. You walk in the door, and they have a piano player and chairs all lined up, and the residents were listening to Dixieland music. It was very nice. The community was very nicely put together and had nice grounds with a lake, a pond, and benches to sit on. The people seemed nice.

My visit at Desoto Beach Club was pleasant. The woman took me around everywhere, showed me a lot of the rooms, the dining room, and some of the facilities. It was very nice. The atmosphere was pleasant. The living quarters were very nice, and the staff was very pleasant and very helpful.

Desoto Beach Club was very nice and well set-up for the elderly. They had a lot of activities. It would have been a great place for my mom. The room was a cute, well set-up, small one-bedroom apartment. The dining room was restaurant-style. The staff was wonderful, helpful, informative, and compassionate.
