1 Nursing Homes Community in Lake Mary, Florida

Brookdale Lake Mary was very elegant. It had a really nice look from the outside. The room looked spacious. It had a large bathroom and a large one-bedroom unit that my mother would have been in. I was really ready to accept that one, but when we came back and started to sit down and talk to the salesperson it became more a la carte. Instead of telling me $3,100 a month for everything, and as she needed more we would add it, but it wasn't that way. It was more a la carte, and I didn't care for that. I felt like I was being talked to by a used car salesperson. At that time we were just checking out assisted living because my father had just died and we buried him the day before and my mother was going into a home. She could get around in her wheelchair by herself and can do things by herself, but she needed some time to adjust. I didn't really meet a lot of the staff. The person who helped me was the salesperson. At the end of it it was nickel and dime, just money for this and money for that. I just want to hear the bottomline price and what it's going to be for a month. I didn't want to know what my mother could go into; I want to know now. So by the time I got out of there she lost me. We loved the place. It was close to my mom's and they have memory care, but I didn't think that Mom needed memory care at that time. They were more expensive, too. They had a library up on the third floor. They had a dining room where people go. They also had an activity room where people go when they have an opportunity to do some activities. The dining room had a menu. It looked like it would have been a really nice place.

I wouldn't consider Spring Hills Lake Mary. I was not very happy with the staff. They didn't have the level of education that they should have. I participated in some exercise classes and I went on shopping trips with them. The food was excellent and they offer two meals a day. The dining area was nice, large, and spacious, and the kitchen was nice. There was not a lot of walking space, so basically the only walking space is in the front parking lot. The pricing was very high when I was there. I had a two-bedroom and a kitchenette area.

It was very nice and I was impressed with the place. The apartments were very small, but they were nice. They had nice accommodations, they had a small bar, and a place where people gather. They take residents to places, and they have games, they play cards, there's a place where they can exercise, and there's lots of stuff to keep the residents busy. They provide meals, and you can have snacks in between meals if you want.

Spring Hills Lake Mary was very nice and probably the visit that we enjoyed the most. The appearance itself was appealing even when driving in, as opposed to many others that are just plain buildings with a parking lot. We saw a two-bedroom apartment on the second floor. It was empty with just the rooms, kitchen, walls and floor, so it had no appeal. The lady who took us on the tour was very nice and informative. They were having a social affair on the first floor the day we went there, and we enjoyed seeing the number of people that was there. We also toured the dining area, and it was nice. It's not what we were looking for because it's more like a nursing home, and we were looking for independent living. They had the regular amenities, like a library, salon, beauty parlor, and so on.

We visited Brookdale, they have cottages, but they are not connected to the main building. They have to get out to go to the main building to eat, and my parents don't cook. They have a craft room, and their calendar of events seems to be full.
