We admitted Mom to Sunrise of Studio City for a couple of weeks. She was placed on the Alzheimer's floor with 30 or 40 more residents. We didn't feel the setting was good for her. Her room was clean, everything was accessible, it's safe, the staff was very nice, friendly, and supportive, and the food was good. The room was a little on the smallish side and she shared a bath with another resident. The other resident was a nice lady, but she was screaming during the night. They had a community dining room where they had breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and all the residents ate there. Some of them were kind of destructive, and considering their condition, they're all going through different stages of memory loss, so we just felt the environment was too institutional for her. We wanted her to be in a home setting instead. In terms of the way they operate their facility, it's very professional. They were very nice and understanding, so I don't have any complaints about that. There was nothing that they did wrong, it just wasn't the right setting for her. Every day, they would have all the residents sit in the community rooms like the TV room and have music or sing-alongs with piano playing, but many of the residents were kind of out of it. My mom was a little more high-functioning, that's why we felt the environment wasn't quite right for her. They have a lot of activities for their non-Alzheimer's residents on the other floors. They have four floors there. They told us that the Alzheimer's residents could interact with the other residents, but we didn't see any of that while she was there. They pretty much kept to their own floor. We thought that she'd have more interaction with a full range of residents and different age groups, but it didn't happen. She was only there for two weeks.
We chose Sunrise of Studio City. The staff is nice, understanding, and helpful. The people seem happy, and it seems like a happy place. They have lots of activities. The food is good. There is a kitchenette in every room and big windows and lots of lights. They have daily housekeeping and do their laundry for them. They take them on outings and to go shopping. It is a clean place in a very nice setting. My mom will move there in the next two weeks, hopefully.
I visited Sunrise of Studio City for consideration for my mom. The staff was very good and professional. I didn't have any problems at all. We have considered them for quite a long time after our experience with another family member who lived at Sunrise before. I know the quality of their care but felt that the physical environment would be overwhelming for my mom. The living quarters were a bit nicer than what she had at the other facility, and the entire facility was more well kept and fancier. I would say it’s like a hotel.
Sunrise Studio City has a nice vibe, really nice apartments and offers a lot for the residents. The layout of the building is easy to navigate. Residents seem happy.
