Description of Magnolia Place
Magnolia Place is in a residential neighborhood of Southwest Bakersfield, close to numerous parks that support leisure strolls, including Westwold Park, Haggin Oaks Park and Pin Oak Park. The residence focuses on helping residents lead the lives they want with the respect and dignity they deserve. It provides assisted living and memory care services with a dedicated 24-hour care team and on-site management. Assisted living is designed to offer the personalized care residents need with the activities of daily living. Studios and one-and two-bedroom suites are available.
The facility offers the Connections Memory Care program, which provides innovative care and a welcoming environment for residents living with Alzheimer's or forms of dementia. Respite care is also available. Amenities include restaurant-style dining, weekly housekeeping and laundry service, on-site beauty salon and barbershop, scheduled transportation to shopping and appointments, weekly celebrations and a full calendar of social, recreational and exercise activities.

I visited this facility
I liked Magnolia Place (Formerly Brookdale Bakersfield), but it was a larger facility and I felt my husband would not be comfortable there. The rooms were nice sized with good amenities. I looked at both memory care and assisted living. I was there at lunchtime, and there were people watching TV. It was a very pleasant place, and the people seemed happy. The person running the memory care was very outgoing and answered everything that I asked. They had the place covered with pictures and things so it didn't look institutional. The Jack and Jill type rooms were large, comfortable, and nicely furnished. It was a very open facility. The lunch I had was good.

I visited this facility
Brookdale Bakersfield was wonderful. Everybody was very polite and helpful. The food was all wonderful and the place looked like a five star hotel. They're very active and they have outings. The people I talked to were very happy and they looked great. It was more like a resort for retired people.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident
My mom has only been at Magnolia Place for about a week, but so far they have been very compassionate, very helpful, kind, and friendly. There have been some issues for which I think it is just a matter of time to resolve. The communication has been a little bit lacking, though. We furnished her room, and we had to do some cleaning when she first moved in. The room is pleasant, and it has nice windows, so there is a lot of natural light coming in. It's a Jack-and-Jill room where there is another resident on one side and a bathroom in between them. The facility itself is nice. They have some exercises, they play bingo, they have daily devotionals and news updates, and then they have some learning activities. She gets pretty good food, too.

Brookdale Bakersfield is a beautiful place. The staff is very nice. My cousin is happy there. Everybody always seems nice and helpful. All the residents seem to be happy there. The dining room is nice, and the food is nice, too. They have a large menu to choose from. They have movies, morning workouts, card games, bingo, and a library. If you're sick and they have to bring you a meal to your room, they charge you $7, which I think isnt good.
