I liked Magnolia Place (Formerly Brookdale Bakersfield), but it was a larger facility and I felt my husband would not be comfortable there. The rooms were nice sized with good amenities. I looked at both memory care and assisted living. I was there at lunchtime, and there were people watching TV. It was a very pleasant place, and the people seemed happy. The person running the memory care was very outgoing and answered everything that I asked. They had the place covered with pictures and things so it didn't look institutional. The Jack and Jill type rooms were large, comfortable, and nicely furnished. It was a very open facility. The lunch I had was good.
Brookdale Bakersfield was wonderful. Everybody was very polite and helpful. The food was all wonderful and the place looked like a five star hotel. They're very active and they have outings. The people I talked to were very happy and they looked great. It was more like a resort for retired people.
Brookdale Bakersfield is a beautiful place. The staff is very nice. My cousin is happy there. Everybody always seems nice and helpful. All the residents seem to be happy there. The dining room is nice, and the food is nice, too. They have a large menu to choose from. They have movies, morning workouts, card games, bingo, and a library. If you're sick and they have to bring you a meal to your room, they charge you $7, which I think isnt good.
The "memory care" unit is horribly understaffed and a dangerous place for people to live. The director, Ronnette "Ronnie" Lelfore, is dishonest and will straight up ignore your phone calls if you want information about your loved one. There are smaller residences called "board and care" facilities that have a much better patient to caregiver ratio and actually care about their residents (I wish I had known these existed earlier). The staff at Emeritus provides the bare minimum of what is required by law, and will treat your family member as if their safety and comfort means nothing. There is a severe lack of concern for administering medications at the correct timing intervals, helping family members to reduce fall risk for residents, and ensuring that residents are fed a proper diet. Please take your money and your loved one elsewhere.
