Cascadian was a nice place but not that homey. The staff who showed us around was very knowledgeable. The residents were exercising, socializing, walking, and playing games. We enjoyed a lunch there, and the food was good. We had a very nice visit.
Olympic Place was nice, clean, and appeared to be well maintained. We had a good lunch there. However, the people and the residents didn't seem that friendly. We saw them exercising and walking.
This is not a facility I would put any person in.I spent 5 months here during a recovery. The meals or sub par, no fresh food, mostly canned and poorly prepared. The cook calls her self a chef but is just a cook, and not a good one. She can not prepare what is on the menu with out complaint. Nursing care is rude and unresponsive, no nurse at nite. Tables and eating utensils are seldom clean. The exercise room has room for only one bike. Tours are to a small grocery store or a Casino. I found a much nicer facility and moved as soon as possible. Laundry facilities are in the hall and frequently break down. My hallway had 3 washers and 3 dryers, A broken washer took 21 days to repair. The young staff are pleasant but move on quickly to better jobs, some within a few days.Do your research and make visits, ask a lot of questions. Drop in unexpectedly at meal times and talk to the patients. No internet connections in rooms and only two PCs for the entire population. The activity room is again very small, may 25 people. Puzzles are about it. I found you can find much better facilities for similar fee if you look on the internet.
I believe the staff means well. I have witnessed an untrained employee state that he is providing "patient care" afterhours. They allow pedicures to be done in an activity room where food can be prepared and is often used of eating. They advertise fresh, cooked from scratch foods. I have eaten at Olympic Place over 25 times. The over cooked, canned food has mostly been served barely warm, rarely hot. I have witnessed dirty tables too many times. I have asked to have tables cleaned, new dishes and silverware be set. Most residents fell somewhat intimidated to complain about the poor food quality. "Meet the Chef" meetings have been canceled with short notice and one time, the chef didn't bother to show at the meeting. A request for placemats was responded with, "that will never happen", from the assistant manager. The facility is very clean inside and out. Except for the poor quality of the food and cooking staff, Olympic Place is a great retirement place. We are working to help the residents get the quality Bonaventure advertises.
