As in many states, Utah offers an&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ssa.gov/policy/docs/progdesc/ssi_st_asst/2011/ut.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">optional state supplement</a>&nbsp;(OSS). Medicaid provides a variety of programs and services to these individuals, including financial assistance and access to medical and supportive care, prescription medications and equipment. 
 
Seniors residing in an assisted living facility can access financial assistance from Medicaid under one of two waiver programs: the Aging Waiver and the New Choices Waiver.&nbsp;To be eligible for&nbsp;these waivers in Utah, seniors must be 65 years of age or older and complete a comprehensive assessment to determine the level of care they need. Financial requirements stipulate that individual applicants may not have an income that exceeds $12,490 annually and assets valued at more than $2,000, while couples may not have a combined annual income that exceeds $16,910 and assets valued at more than $3,000.&nbsp; 
 
Aging Waiver 
 
Utah&rsquo;s&nbsp;<a href="http://health.utah.gov/ltc/AG/AGHome.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Aging Waiver</a>&nbsp;operates under the state&rsquo;s Medicaid Managed Care Program. It&rsquo;s designed to help seniors retain some of their independence when they are at risk of moving into a nursing care facility. Seniors participating in this waiver program may be residing at home or in an assisted living facility. The program covers the cost of long-term care as well as daily nurse visits, senior companions, respite care, nonemergency transportation and other necessary health care expenses.&nbsp;

New Choices Waiver Program 
 
The&nbsp;<a href="http://health.utah.gov/ltc/NC/NCHome.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">New Choices Waiver</a>&nbsp;is a separate part of the state&rsquo;s Medicaid Managed Care Program. It helps seniors who are residing in nursing care homes to transition back into an assisted living facility when their need for care has lessened. The program provides seniors with financial help with the cost of care as well as transitional counseling services. It came into existence to help reduce the level of stress on the Medicaid system, which is largely the result of the high cost of nursing care.&nbsp; 
 
In addition to the Medicaid state plan requirements mentioned previously, seniors must reside in an approved nursing home to participate in the New Choices Waiver, and they must be able to safely move back into their community or an assisted living facility.&nbsp;

I have a friend whose mom is in this facility. They had some problems a few years ago but they have changed it a lot since then. COVID has been hard on everyone but they didn't even have an outbreak until COVID was almost over with. I'm glad they were able to keep them safe through such a hard time
