I liked Royal Oaks. It was small and only had 50 beds total or a little bit more, and it was clean. The person during the visit was very helpful. She told me of the different activities they had, and they had outings. I checked the memory care and the assisted living, and the rooms were decent sized with bathrooms in each one.
We selected Royal Oaks for my mother-in-law. The staff seemed very nice, the location was very good for the family, and they were a little more reasonable price-wise than the other locations. I really liked their marketing person, and the director seemed very down-to-earth and approachable. They have transportation and a lot of activities. The rooms were very nice, and I liked the garden area.
My mom has already moved into Royal Oaks. It's relatively clean for the most part. It's completely brand new since they've completely remodeled it. They have an assisted side and a lockdown side for Alzheimer's. The food could be better but it's not bad or terrible. The staff is really friendly and receptive to whatever you need them to do. My mom is in the memory care area. They do their laundry twice a week, feed them three meals, and have housekeeping clean their rooms, but I wish they'd do a better job on the cleaning. They have a large TV room and activities for them, like bingo, and have a DJ come in on Fridays when they have music and dance. They just had a big changeover in staff, which seems like it made a big difference for the better, and they're still trying to iron things out. They're in the process of hiring more staff which I agree that they do need. You can see that they're really trying to step up their game. The layout's nice but I just think they made a poor choice on some of the carpeting and furniture. As far as the pricing, though, you can't beat it because it's cheap and a bargain.
