The best way to get to know a community is by scheduling a tour. See the facilities, meet the staff and residents, and get a feel first hand what it's like to live at The Palms of Mt. Pleasant Assisted Living.
Our family's experience at The Palms of Mount Pleasant has been, and continues to be, wonderful! We have always found the staff to be competent, courteous and welcoming. There is a sense of community and genuine care amongst the residents and the caregivers. My father is 88 years old and has enjoyed living in a residential retirement community since 2006. He has consistently enjoyed the clean environment, good food and interesting activities at The Palms. We have always been welcomed and greeted by the kind and personable ladies at the front desk. They seem to know everyone and their family by name. The Activities Department does a really good job of appealing to a variety of interests. Each week, there are flyers handed out, signs posted in the elevators and personal reminders given about the upcoming events and activities. We really appreciate the fact that the staff personally reaches out to my father to make sure that he is aware of activities that may personally be of interest to him. As far as the food goes, we have no complaints. On occasion, my family of five will join my dad for a meal. The dining facility always seems to have something for all of us. I am always surprised at the diverse menu and daily options. The food staff really tries to get to know the residents’ likes and dislikes. They seem to anticipate what my dad will choose to eat and offer him suggestions based on his preferences. Also, his tea or juice glass is never empty! My father currently lives in independent living and is able to do most things for himself; however, he has been hospitalized for illness and required respite care on occasion. We have always been pleased with the care he has received. Also, there have been a few times when my father just needed a nurse or staff member to check on him. They have been immediately responsive to his needs. We certainly appreciate their prompt professionalism. It is comforting to know that someone is always available to help with any health or first aid issues that may arise. We have watched as the entire complex is being renovated and updated. It's nice to always feel that we are in a clean, bright and nicely decorated complex. The buildings themselves have been around for a while, but are continuously being improved. My father lives in a two bedroom, spacious apartment that is thoroughly cleaned and maintained by the housekeeping/maintenance department. If my review seems very glowing and complimentary, it's because this has been our real life experience at The Palms. For anyone who is in a position of caring for an aging parent, it is crucial to feel that they are safe, nurtured and genuinely cared for. We are grateful that our father has the privilege of calling The Palms home! Victoria Craig Vinzani Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
I have been visiting residents at The Palms of Mt. Pleasant for 13 years. My mother-in-law, several friends' parents, and now my dad have and are living there. I selected The Palms for my father after visiting all of the local independent and assisted living facilities in Mt. Pleasant. While others promised an outstanding place for my dad, The Palms did not disappoint. Their current staff from sales, front desk, and activities to meals and healthcare for my dad has been exceptional. Not only is he in good hands, but they are there for me when I have concerns. Upgrading the facility is ongoing and equally impressive. I am hoping a visible nursing station is next in the planning for assisted living. Thank you, Palms of Mt. Pleasant for being there for my family!
My mother's experience in assisted living in this facility was largely terrible. My mother has difficulties with mobility. She has been left lay in wet undergarments, and on one occasion was told by a staff member to wet herself in bed because the staff member could not help her. On another occasion she was left alone sitting on a toilet for 30 minutes. Staff were extremely slow in responding to call buttons for help, particularly at at night.Staff at times has refused/neglected to help her shower on scheduled days (including for five days after one occasion of being left in wet undergarments). While some staff there were dedicated and caring, the incompetence, abuse and neglect of others far overshadowed the good staff's efforts. The air conditioner in her room did not work through the South Carolina summer, and nothing was done despite reporting the problem multiple times. My mother has finally agreed to come live with us. Both my wife and I work in the health care industry and have extensive experience with elder care facilities- this is some of the worst care we have ever seen. Our advice to the facility- staff it adequately and train and supervise your staff. our advice to anyone considering this facility for assisted living for your loved one: AVOID IT no matter how slick the sales pitch, which in our case proved far from truthful.
