I am a very happy occupant of one of the upgraded apartments in the Manor. Moving to the Hillside Manor has given my life a real boost and new direction. The food is so outstanding I have to be really careful not to over eat. Great thing: I don't have to cook it or do the dishes! The residents made me feel so welcome from day one. The staff care about us as though we are family. Have I mentioned the wine and cheese gatherings? Tidbits served are so good. They have so many varied activities I just can't find time to do them all. So I just sit in my chair and mold. - NOT! ! There are lots of different kinds and levels of group exercise classes to keep one's joints moving and limber. In just over a month we will have new exercise area 3 or 4 times larger than the previous one. Look hard enough and you'll find an outdoor swimming pool (salt water).
Honestly. If you love your parents. I would not recommend this place whatsoever. The staff is very limited in the assisted living area. They do not have enough residential aids to assist all of the residents. The residential aids try their best to help the residents but when it is 4 of them taking care of 40+ individuals...it's gets a little difficult. The food for the assisted living (3rd floor) comes from the 1st floor so the residents have to wait 20-30 minutes to get their food per meal and sometimes the foods will come out cold. The activities they have are not intriguing for the residents. Very few residents participate in the activities and most of them would rather sit outside of the med-tech station and wait for the next meal time then to participate. It is a clean place but all that glitters isn't gold. The management Denise Olson is very unprofessional. The comments she makes in front of the residents are belittling. She never smiles at the residents. She doesn't interact with the residents and honestly if you are going to pay a lot of money to have your parents taken care of...don't choose this place. For the rates of this establishment...it is not worth the quality of service that your loved one should be receiving. The only way this establishment could improve would be to start with management and then work its way down.
Not sure if this is a place i would recommend. My mom and dad lived there for five years until they were evicted on the grounds my dad was being difficult. My mom spent two plus years in their memory care unit. The care givers and med aides were nice but they had no activities for the residents, even though they had a daily schedule posted on the wall. Never viewed one activity, just most of the time parked in front of the television. I even talked to administrator about things they could do but nothing ever happened. Not impressed by Emeritus and now my parents are out all the money they paid to get in that place.
We appreciate your feedback. At Hillside, we are responsible for the health and safety of our residents. Everything we do is with our resident in mind. Unfortunately, there are times when our community is no longer a fit for a resident in spite of best efforts. To that end we are mindful of our contractual obligations to our residents and there are times when a community must evict a resident when the safety and emotional well being of other residents and/or staff are at risk. Our Memory Care Unit has recently undergone a leadership change and there has been much improvement to our activity offerings, schedule and participation. We now have residents growing tomatoes and zucchini in our garden, attending outings such as our recent BBQ in the park, enjoying exercise such as balloon volleyball, participating in sing-alongs, and exploring their personal life journeys with memory boxes. Our award winning “Join Their Journey” program in Memory Care provides us the ability to meet each resident’s and family’s needs at each stage of the disease process. We focus on six program signatures: Wellness, Dining Experience, Supportive Environment, Life Enrichment, Family Partnerships, and Team Development. In June, we hosted a four part educational series for families journeying with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. A new support group has been formed to continue the discussion that was started in June. This is in addition to two other Alzheimer’s and Dementia support groups offered on the Hillside campus. -Nikki Phillips, Community Relations Director, Hillside Retirement Community
Hillside Retirement offers all the conveniences of many large continuing care communities, but it stands apart from most in many ways. When you first arrive you will notice that it is a beautiful community aesthetically. The cottages/ apartments are well maintained and the landscaping is gorgeous. The food at both restaurants is exceptional offering large menus to choose from. They have a onsite physical training program that is second to none with an onsite director who is well known for her education and experience in the senior industry. Their excursions and onsite activities are varied so that residents with different interests can find many things to enjoy doing with other residents. The staff is equally good. All are friendly, knowledgeable, ready to help and obviously very happy working there. The care in Hillsides assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing is top notch with a "person" centered approach that provides care that preserves the residents well being with dignity and as much independence as possible. This is a community that we refer our clients to, knowing That they will enjoy the many amenities that Hillside has to offer, the caring staff and higher level quality care when needed.
