We saw a community at Concord called Crescent Heights. It's way too far from me. They had a nice facility, we were impressed with the place and my sister liked the idea of independence. But by the time we got there, with all the road turns, I don't know how many times we got turned around even with the GPS. I felt that it was way too far from us. They're outdated too. Their carpeting, their common areas and their community areas. Everything really needs updating. It's like they're stuck in the 60's. The size of the apartment there was fine. I think my sister looked at a 1-bedroom unit which had a separate bedroom. I don't know if it had a cook top or not but I remember there was a sort of an apartment size refrigerator. Smaller than the average person has in their house but it would be enough for her. The staff was wonderful. One thing that we noticed was that their activities seemed to be not as varied as they would need to be for my sister. There was a lot of Bingo nights and that sort of thing and she doesn't do Bingo and she doesn't play a lot of cards. She prefers more intellectual pursuits to keep her brain active like lectures and that sort of thing so they didn't really have a whole lot going on there. I think that because they are an independent living facility, you're pretty much expected to do your own thing. There wasn't that much available and that's not what she's looking for.

We enjoyed our visit with Crescent Heights. They showed us some apartments; they looked very nice. I was impressed with the gardens, the shrubbery, and just the lawn in general. It was very inviting and seemed very clean, and I did see some residents wandering about, engaging in conversation, and social activities. I was impressed with it overall.

The Living Center of Concord was nice and their apartments were good. I saw the residents eating lunch and they seemed happy. I saw the cafeteria, it was nice and clean. They had a nice room for activities and all. The staff there was really nice. Everything about the place was convenient and I like the people there. What the person who explained to me was really good, they had a nurse on duty at all times and a doctor comes by 3 times a week.

My mother-in-law went to Five Oaks Manor for rehab. The rehab side was very clean, it was nice, the food was excellent, and the service was great. We liked it and she liked it too. The staff was very nice to her. They played bingo, there were trips out into the community, and little parties, like Christmas parties.

We toured the Living Center of Concord, and we weren't impressed with the place. We didn't think it was all that clean. The person who assisted us wasn't very friendly. Most of the people were in their rooms and they weren't enjoying themselves like the other places we went to. They have a very small exercise room that I observed, the rooms were very small, and they were able to have a very small television. However, the rooms were very closed in, and they weren't roomy at all. They didn't have a dining room situation per se; they just had a couple of tables in there, and they looked like card tables.
