The best way to get to know a community is by scheduling a tour. See the facilities, meet the staff and residents, and get a feel first hand what it's like to live at Brookdale Charlotte East Assisted Living.
My mother moved into Brookdale Charlotte East. Everybody there has been really amazing as far as answering everybody's questions, it's a really nice place, and the residents seemed pretty happy and pretty settled. They definitely have their own culture among the residents; I think that's really cool, they encourage them to be independent. They do have a list of activities up, they weren't as many as they normally have, but they still do grocery store trips and get them out. They have to buzz you in, take your temperature to get in, but they still have stuff going on like bingo. I think they still have art classes. They have dinner in the dining area, lunch is pick up if you want it, and breakfast is pick up as well, but they have two different times for dinner, and you can pick which one you prefer. The dining room is really pretty, all the tables are six feet apart, and they're doing a really good job keeping the residents safe with all this COVID. The food is really good, they have lots of things that you can choose from for each meal, you put in your order each day.
Brookdale Charlotte East was outdated and seemed tired. The person during the tour was lovely, but everything looked old and stately. They definitely need renovations. I saw a beauty parlor and I saw a whole bunch of residents coming in from a shopping trip.
Brookdale Charlotte East is OK, but I am not that impressed. It is not a bad place, but I am not excited with it. They offer all kinds of music and art activities for residents to participate in. They plan trips out too. However, the overall feel of the place to me is not exciting. The staff is low-key too. When I went there, they had a sing-a-long; it was a religious activity. They had quite a few residents participating. They were playing the piano. They were all sitting around in a circle singing. The dining area looked very pleasant. It looked like it would be a good place to go to dine and get your meal.
Brookdale Charlotte East was very nice and the residents seemed to be very content with the place. The room layout was good, but it's small for the geriatric community to get around in. They're not exactly user friendly for wheelchairs and the doors were narrower for walkers. Other than that, the rooms were very nice. There were just several things that ADA has not met. We were very pleased with the meal we had. The dining area was very nice and it's got a restaurant type setting. They have independent living with personalized care assistance and that is what my parents are going in to. Their assisted living options are just efficiency apartments. They had a library, a room with a pool table and some game tables in it, a very nice physical therapy room, a very nice common living room area on every floor and a bigger one on the first floor, and a laundry room on every floor. There is a trash chute on every floor, so they don't have to go outside to a dumpster. The food was wonderful.
