My mother was at this facility for many years. It was pretty good for a while, but then took a severe downturn about two years ago and most recently was absolutely horrible. My mother would wait for hours for somebody to come get her after her afternoon nap 2, 3, 4 hours. They said they were coming back and never did; she couldn’t get out of her chair, couldn’t go to the bathroom. I live in a different state and she would call me crying because nobody was coming to get her. I would call the front desk and nobody would answer the phone. This happened too many times to count. The food was terrible. My mother lost a great amount of weight. Doctors who made appointments with my mother and never showed up. Doctors who did not return my phone calls. I also called corporate to get some help and we had some really great conversations, but nothing actually changed. The room was filthy. On the weekends, they hire people from agencies to come in= poor care and stealing. We took her out because she received two broken feet. My mother is very sharp at the age of 99 and told me a completely different story as to what Heather Glen said happened. I know people who have left there because they said there is something evil there. Do not put anybody you love in this facility.

We looked at Harmony at Reynolds Mountain. We did not see the room where my mother would live, but we saw the rest of the building. It's a lovely facility, but it's very large. Some people will like that; some people won't. They also have independent living and memory care/Alzheimer's units. However, they're hard sell and very aggressive. In fact, with the current residents, they offer them money if they refer new residents. They have wine and cheese nights, they have two different types of dining room, and they have their own onsite movie room where they can watch movies. They have a lot of amenities, but you pay for that, too, and that's reflected in the price. They're part of a large corporate enterprise, and that comes through in everything you'll experience.

Brookdale Asheville Overlook was very small and quaint. If people aren't that mobile, it's a great place. The salesperson was wonderful. They did not have that many activities. Pricing was average and comparable with everybody else.

Givens Estates is a great and solid community. It has a lot of aesthetics and lots of things to do. What I'm concerned about is the pricing structure to get in and there seemed to be a substantial wait list. The place is very nice, and the rooms are very spacious more so than I would expect. The efficiency suite had a lot of space for furniture. People are very friendly and seem to know each other very well. The restaurant was very good and had nice alternatives and tasty food. They had a lot of arts and crafts like woodwork, painting, and pottery-making. They had gardens and greenhouses so you can do your own gardening. There are a lot of things to do. I was very pleased with it.

Brookdale Asheville Walden Ridge was nice and clean. We spoke to one staff member who went over different things with us. She answered our questions. The rooms were nice.
Go a bit further out to explore pricing and amenities.
