I absolutely love Elderwood Assisted Living at Tonawanda. It is a beautiful community. However, they only have assisted living, so they don't have a memory care unit. If my mother could go into assisted living, it would be there. It was a very nice set up. Everything was very open and bright. There was tons to do. I met a number of people there and they were very nice. Their rooms were small. They were one-room units with a bed, you could have your own chair and your own desk, there was a bathroom, and maybe a small kitchen area. It was more like a private nursing home room. All the rooms there opened out to the main room, so your eating and your activity rooms are right near your door. Everything was right there. It was a very nice set up. It was very bright, sunny, and affordable, too. There were people that were doing puzzles and games, there was a person playing a piano, some were eating, and there were a couple people drinking coffee. All of these things were happening in a very large room sectioned off into areas. You can go from one area to the other. It was very open, very clean, and very nice. I really liked that place. Unfortunately it was just assisted living and there was no memory care there.

My mother's experience with Elderwood Assisted Living at Tonawanda has been wonderful. They have exercise classes, crafts, games, day trips, movies, manicures, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, a courtyard to sit in, and private rooms. The staff is so nice. It's clean. It doesn't have that nursing home odor. Everybody seems so nice. She really enjoys it there. The rooms have a table, a dresser, and a desk. We brought in her recliner and TV, and she has a private bath. The staff is very helpful and good at returning phone calls.

Elderwood Assisted Living at Tonawanda looked nice, but they didn’t have a memory care unit. It seemed to be a very good place. What I liked about it was that they had a couple of beds that the residents could use if they had to go on Medicaid. The staff was fine. The dining room looked nice and the library looked good. This was not a locked down place. They were free to go outside and free to do anything.
