Fairwinds - Rio Rancho has a very pleasant atmosphere. They offered housekeeping one day a week, you decide how many meals you have, and they have a lot of activities and transportation to appointments. The menus looked very good.

The food in Fairwinds Rio Rancho's restaurant was good. It was very beautiful and they have less of an annual increase than most places. They have two meals a day and you can choose lunch or dinner, and if you want, you can also choose breakfast as one of the meals. You can also purchase breakfast or one of the other meals. They have weekly housekeeping and laundry, a dedicated person in the gym to help residents to work out, and they have a very nice movie theater. The woman who took us around was very intelligent, knowledgeable, patient, nice, and answered all our questions. The waitress in the restaurant was very helpful. I had a special request for my food and she made sure that happened.

My dad and his partner have been at Fairwinds - Rio Rancho for about two and half years, and it's a wonderful community. They've been very happy there and I can't say enough good things about them. They have very good continuity of caring staff. My first impression when I walked in was it's like a very busy hotel in Las Vegas. There were people all over the place and there was a lot of movement. Fairwinds bent over backwards to try to accommodate them in assisted living. One of the nice things that's a little unusual was they also offer two-bedroom apartments in their assisted living wing. For my dad and his partner, there's a real sense of community. They have terrific staff, services and activities. It's spotlessly clean, very well-run, and in a really nice location in Rio Rancho, especially for more active seniors. They have a shuttle bus, and the place is just right around the corner from a shopping center, bank, and pharmacies. It's an excellent location since it's in a beautiful neighborhood, and they have gorgeous views of the mountains. The staff is always accessible and very professional. The food is very good, and my dad gave it a thumbs-up. They have nice spaces, a salon in-house, a library, several nice gathering areas, and a little pub area. It's a sizeable community, and they do a nice job. There's always something going on, and they have vendors come into the lobby area and live music every week at happy hour; they work hard at keeping everybody engaged. My dad is very engaged in their bridge club and in their very nice gym. My dad has been working out with the trainer, who's terrific and very well-qualified. You can have private appointments with him and he's doing some special sessions with my dad for a very moderate additional price. I also see him working with the seniors and leading classes. It's one of the best values for what it is.

We found Fairwinds for Mother. Everything has been wonderful and top notch. The facility is great and clean. Everybody we dealt with was good. There's about 10 different things to do every day on top of the weekly and monthly activities. We're very happy with the choice.

Rio Rancho was very nice, and very welcoming, and the lady spent a lot of time with us. She was very friendly, very knowledgeable, and answered our questions. The dining area looked really good. They had a game room, a bar where you can watch games, and games like bocce ball and bunco.

I'm in Fairwinds. The setting is very nice, it's very comfortable, and it has worked out really well. The staff is wonderful, but the food is not really good. All the activities are very good. The have a great person that does the activities, and the outings are very good.

Fairwinds - Rio Rancho asked me to leave a $500 check with them so that if I decided to move there, I'd be in a good position. They said they would hold the check, but instead they went ahead and cashed it, and I've been waiting well over two weeks to get my $500 back. The rooms were nice, but it was too far away from everything I'm used to. Aside from the fact that they've taken well over two weeks to return my check, which they were not supposed to cash, everything else was OK there. They have a wonderful dining room area that you can eat at anytime during the day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I could recommend it.

They clean the apartments every week at Fairwinds. However, the food was not well presented. The cafe looked perfectly acceptable and the 3 meals were nice, but they were very strict about the hours. They had a library, a movie room, a gym, and rides to places.

I liked Fairwinds - Rio Rancho and I was very impressed with them. It looked very nice and looked fairly new. They had phones and a pull cord in every room for emergencies like falls. The facilities were very nice, impressive, and clean. They had a physical therapy area, dining facility, and common areas. The staff who showed us around was very professional.

Our experience having my mother in Fairwinds Rio Rancho has been good so far. They're doing a whole lot of renovation right now so they're taking care of the place. The meals are good, and the staff is friendly. My mother is really enjoying bingo, there's happy hour on Fridays that she goes to, and several games. The rooms and the layout are beautiful. They have a laundry area on every floor, a gym, movie theater, meeting rooms, game rooms, and beautiful outdoor courtyards. The dining room is restaurant-style. Overall, the care my mom received there is really good.

Fairwinds in Rio Rancho is a newer community, and I like that the surroundings are a little brighter. The food is good. They have a nice workout facility and a basketball court that I would enjoy. I met the athletics director, and he was nice guy. They also have a chapel as one of their amenities. Everything about the place is OK.

Fairwinds Rio Rancho was very good, but they were a little further away from where I live. The staff sat down with me, went over things with me, and showed me a couple of rooms. The ones I looked at were apartment types. They have bingo and games -- pretty much the same as the other communities.

Fairwinds - Rio Rancho was pretty nice. I was amazed that the rooms were as big as they were, both for the 1-bedroom and for the studio apartment. They seemed to have quite a few activities. The food was really delicious. One of the rooms had a terrific view of the mountains, but it was more expensive. I had to ask if there was ever an increase before they came forward to about a 2% increase in around a year. They weren't upfront about that. I had to ask twice and I didn't really like that. The lady who showed us around was really nice and down to earth. The first lady I met -- who was in charge of the touring and the leasing -- was too much of a salesperson and very business like. She's very nice, but it became too superficial. However, I was impressed that if you wanted to travel somewhere, they would make travel arrangements for you. It just seemed a bit rundown.

My mother was at Fairwinds. We had her there for several years. The room was nice, although the maintenance had decreased over time. I didn't think they did a good job of keeping it clean. We bought some brand new sheets for my mother but they disappeared. We had to hound them for four weeks before they found them. Also, my mother had a fireplace in her apartment, so we put in work orders three times at least to have it fixed, but they never fixed it. It still wasn't fixed when she moved out. The maintenance had gone way downhill. The carpet was dirty. It wasn't that way when we moved her three years ago. They had activities and a happy hour on Friday. My mother had a group of women that she played cards with, and she played bingo there.

They can't keep a chef or kitchen staff. They've had 4 or 5 in the last year. We've had food cooked with rancid oil. I've thrown away food that smells terrible and I couldn't identify. They use pressed chicken loaf and call it roast chicken and use cubes of it in their soup. They've promoted the concierge to Manager of the facility. She has no facility management experience. Urine stains and smells on the carpet in front of the elevator where dogs wait. Unresponsive maintenance worker. Once put on the glass cover of the ceiling fan light over the living room wrong. Several days later as I passed it came loose and dropped on the carpet--it could have been my mother-in-law's head. When he has told about it he said, "I just propped it there because I was coming back to do it right." The elevator to the 3rd floor is broken again and has been out of order for a week. The last time it was out of order for 2 months. People have been walked down a floor with heart issues after calling the ambulance because there was no way to get a gurney to their room. Nice entrance--lots of hype.

Business Response

Dear Mrs. Murphy, We see that you are posting your thoughts on several social media outlets. We want you to know two things: 1. We are committed to our resident’s safety, well-being, and happiness at our community. We do everything possible to be proactive to maintain Rio Rancho as one of the top retirement communities in the area. 2. I know we’ve already spoken, but I invite you, along with your mother-in-law, to talk if either of you still have concerns. Thanks, Nora Lucero, General Manager
