Reviews of Assisted Living Facilities in Monmouth County

I visited this facility

We recently toured The Chelsea at Tinton Falls. I was very impressed with the facility. Kelly gave us the information we needed and was upfront with availablity. The rooms were spacious the atmosphere was upbeat. The staff was happy to be there. We ended up needing to place our loved one sooner than there was a room available. The impression I got was a beautiful facility with people who generally care.

This may not be the review you are looking for, but I’m sure you’ll post it as fair assessment for those looking to move into SB. My mother has been at SB for over several years. It’s appalling to think that monthly fees went up 4% in 2022 and now they are going up 7.5% in 2023. I understand a need for increases to cover relavent expenses, but Stop blaming everything on COVID and do your job in managing expenses to keep costs down. When increases go up this much, it’s usually because someone isn’t keeping an eye on expenses and not always because of “COVID.” 2023 fees (+7.5%) will add another $280 to her monthly fee. What’s going to happen in 2024? What are your Operating Expenses in relation to your Collections? The food is average, at best. When it was delivered to her room during the “Lock Down” the food was cold. The wait staff, in the dining hall isn’t being paid fairly, regardless of what the administration tells you. Talk to one of the wait staff and hear it from their mouths. The 2 yr scholarship isn’t enticing to those individuals who live pay check to paycheck. Their pay raises don’t reflect our increases. Where’s this money being spent? Upkeep, renovations? With an increase of 7.5% of each unit’s monthly fee, your collections will far exceed $3million in 2023. (Assuming your facility has close to 1100 units, some not occupied.) I’m somewhat confused and as the Executor of my mothers estate, would like to ask you for a copy of the budget from 2022 and the new one for 2023. Thank you. You may email it to the address given below. Thank you.

I would highly recommend Tower Lodge Care Center to anyone in need of nursing care and assistance. When I needed to find a home for my father, they made the process easy and comforting. The facility was clean and many residents were engaged in activities or were socializing. Once my father was admitted, I was kept up to date on his medical care, and his nurses and aides were ready to answer my questions.

My sister-in-law and I had a wonderful visit. My mother-in-law and several others recently moved and Wellington welcomed the new residents and the families with a celebration. Everyone seemed so happy!

I visited this facility

We are moving forward with my mother going into the Seabrook Retirement Community. We chose it for the fact that she can have an apartment place that really seemed like an apartment. They offer a large community with things she likes to do such as gardening, they have doctors on site that are there full time, nurses that are there 24/7, if she should need any assistance she can stay in independent living to a point where it may be a little bit difficult to maintain her there, but they can continue a lot of services while she's still living in her apartment. That was very important to her, and made her feel she can still be independent, and come and go as she wants, for as long as she wants. Assisted living did not offer that option. She can cook and have a full kitchen, and that was very important to her. There were a lot of things that led to that decision: the grounds are large, she can walk at a much longer distance, there is a nice garden that she can help with, the grounds are lovely, they have two, big facilities that are like community centers, and there's a lot of places that you can eat when you have one meal a day. There really wasn't anything that compared to them, it's mostly individual apartments that are for independent living, and one facility on the premises that is for assisted living.

Allaire Rehab & Nursing is an OK facility. It's clean. There are 30 rooms on one floor. The PT staff is really good. Some of other staff are very good and some are not. There's some activities, like bingo and stuff, but they worry more about getting on PT and getting people into the next level of the place. They try to make different food, but it's boxed mashed potatoes and that kind of stuff. They have a garden area, then a very, very small library.

They took such good care of me. My family truly appreciated their kindness and constant updates. I felt safe at Tower Lodge and was happy with all that they did to keep everyone healthy during this time of COVID.

The owner and staff at Wellington have been absolutely amazing. Their steady hands have taken wonderful care of my mother throughout incredibly challenging circumstances such as this pandemic and recent storm related to loss of power. They have communicated well with us along the way. Their families seem immaculate and it is a pleasure to visit.

The staff at Hackensack Subacute Rehabilitation is great, they're highly trained staff like they just stepped down from the hospital. They're excellent. The food is good and we're very happy with the food. The staff is willing to work with you as much as they can, the social worker is in touch with me and they're pretty vigilant with this variety and in keeping everybody away.

Senior care costs are largely based on the location, type of care and cost of living in the area. In Monmouth County, the cost of nursing home care is significantly higher than assisted living and more than twice the cost of in-home care services, which cost less than assisted living.  When comparing the cost of different senior care options, it’s important to consider that residential senior care, such as assisted living, usually includes room and board, but seniors who choose in-home care need to continue paying daily living expenses such as rent, utilities and home maintenance.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Monmouth County

Medicaid in New Jersey

Medicaid is a nationwide health insurance program that provides limited coverage to Americans who have low income and limited assets. It’s jointly funded by the federal and state governments and administered by each state.

New Jersey Medicaid is known as NJ FamilyCare and administered through the Department of Human Services, Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services which contracts out Medicaid client health care to a number of Managed Care Organizations, or MCOs.

To qualify for NJ FamilyCare coverage, individual seniors must earn less than $2,313 per month from all sources and own fewer than $2,000 in countable assets. Couples applying together must earn under $4,426 a month and own less than $3,000 in countable assets.

Under Medicaid rules, countable assets include investment real estate, stocks, bonds, cash and bank account balances. Exempt assets include personal effects such as clothing and jewelry, one vehicle, household furnishings and a home valued under $878,000 that at least one applicant (or their spouse) lives in.

New Jersey has recently moved to replace their HCBC waivers with the creation of the Medicaid Managed Long Term Services and Supports (MLTSS) program. This program consolidates all medical and nonmedical care services for Medicaid-eligible seniors and eliminates the previous enrollment caps for services such as assisted living.

Enrollment in the MLTSS program is automatic and mandatory for all seniors on Medicaid in New Jersey.
