Brookdale Olney was a very good facility for my mother. Unfortunately, she died in December. It was very homey, and she felt comfortable. She's not thoroughly happy because she was not at home with the family anymore, but they were very attentive to her needs and to our needs as her family. They did what they could and as much as they could. They addressed our questions anytime, if we called one, and I got to know the reception ladies very well. I felt like I was talking to an old friend when I called. They became familiar to me, but not overly familiar. If we had concerns, they addressed them very quickly. One time, we could not get my mom's phone to work and the one girl at the front desk said, "I could take care of it." She went up immediately and took care of it. They were very responsive and treated our concerns and questions very respectfully. I loved the rooms. My mother was in a large studio, which she thought, the first time she toured, that it looked small. Once we moved all of her belongings and her furnishings, she said, "Oh my gosh, this is a beautiful room and it's big for what I need," and it really was. It was very comfortable and there was plenty of closet spaces and storage. It's just a really, really good facility. She liked the size of it, because I think they had 82 residents and it wasn't so big that it felt impersonal. They had a calendar of activities that was given to the residents and the families can see that online as well. They had a lot of activities available to anyone who wanted to join in.
Brookdale Olney has been great so far. They have different games, lectures, movies, and outings. The reason we chose them was because my dad is able to have his dog there. The staff is energetic and welcoming. So far, they've been great, and some are better than others. They offer three meals a day and they have some medication management and bathing if you need it.
I visited Brookdale Olney. There wasn't too much different or unusual about it. It was in a nice wooded area. The facilities were relatively new and well-maintained. It's a smaller community with around 200 residents at the most. The staff members were all very nice. The tour was pretty straightforward, nothing particularly good or bad. They had arts and crafts going on in their common room. We were there right as the meal was starting, but that was pretty much it. There wasn't too much organized activity going on during our tour.
Staff not fully trained in care of dementia. Slow billing corrections. Nice looking facility. Front desk is very friendly.
